Re: Bore finish values for performance NPR piston rings
Well....... I'm not the right guy to ask about what the best numbers are. In fact I'm a little frustrated about that subject, far as the general lack of info out there. So i guess what I'm saying is ask sunnen or total seal or mahle motorsports for what kind of numbers you should be looking for, an...

Re: Bore finish values for performance NPR piston rings
It may be better to go to other sources for honing info. Total seal has gone to great lengths investigating honing procedures in the pursuit of getting their goofy ideas to work, while NPR... just works. My general understanding is cast iron or moly facing doesn't work on very thin rings past...

Bore finish values for performance NPR piston rings
Dear Friends, Apparently, nowadays most forged piston manufacturer’s pistons come with the similar thin ring packs. (1.0-1.2-2.8mm for example ) ( CP, Omega/Accralite, JE, Ross, Wiseco etc ) As far as I know, they are all so called steel rings and the top ring is always nitrided in those supplied ri...

Re: Bronze Valve guide materials summary & your opinions pleased
CB performance is still is partnered up with Autolinea in Brazil. They came out with some killer new castings recently I was VERY surprised. Far as making the hole in a valve guide out of solid material I don't have any advice for you really, it's not my area of specialty but I know enough to know....

But the intakes didn't have chrome? but yeah I get what your sayin. PEP supplies guides for many VW and porsche heads. IMO they last 2x better than the old originals and 3x better than whatever comes in some cheap repro heads. And also good to know that PEP has VW and Porsche guides. I have recentl...

Re: Bronze Valve guide materials summary & your opinions please
Kibblewhite do short run guides. C630 bronze is the material they use in their high end products. This is tough material, it does not ream well and should be finished with a hone. Cheers. Great !! I missed the C630 ( C63000 ) in my list. As a matter of fact, meanwhile, I have looked up and found ou...

Dear Friends, Here below, I have tried to summarize the typical bronze valve guide materials. I would be grateful if you could share your experiences with these materials + Ampco 18 and 45 please. I would like to make my own valve guides for cast iron and also for alloy cylinder heads. Mainly for N...

Re: Bronze Valve guide materials summary & your opinions please
Good question. Don't forget silicon bronze. Types of phosphor bronze have been my favorite to work with and seem to hold up well, but I don't really know know exactly what the alloy is, just buy from a trusted source and they figure it out. Harder bronzes turning the OD is no big deal but the ID ca...

Re: New small end bronze bushing installation, swaged/burnished or not ?
I may be jumping too far AHEAD. First you need to get it working correctly and see what that's like. It should be possible hone a bushing so perfectly so it's actually rounder than the average piston pin. When the hone is PERFECT then you can straighten out quite a few messed up holes, but in the p...

Re: New small end bronze bushing installation, swaged/burnished or not ?
Thank you very much Modok, Thank you very much Bill, First I will make sure the equipment is correct. I may need to buy a new mandrel set to hone 20.63 mm which is majority of the rods I will be working with, then the 24.00 mm set. I am not yet sure what is the range of mandrels. I will also have t...
