Re: Heads for 400 w/Mike Jones HR cam

Ok. I’m reading this correctly, you had AFR 195’s and sold them but are still considering another pair if AFR’ 195’s ? I heard somewhere you could buy the Profiler heads from a company called ATK and those castings have a std location exhaust port. Might be something to consider. I once had a 10:1 c...

Re: 540 not showing power

I ran a similar cam as the one you swapped out in a 9.2:1 compression 565 bbc engine with a 325cc Dart Pro1 heads. Super victor intake and a older mode of the 9375 1050 cfm Dominator. The engine ran a 9” 4200-4500 stall converter and liked begin shifted at 6400-6600 rpm’s It ran a 9.70’s at 138.5 mp...

Any other comments?
My 406 with Stock 906 Vortec's went the best of 11.49 last night with the Elgin 1165P hyd cam.
That’s really impressive. What’s the rest of the combo ? Sounds mild enough to be a great street/strip deal

Re: 400 SBC build

Even though it’s tempting I wouldn’t aim for a specific hp number. For a street car it doesn’t matter if it’s 450 or 500 hp. I would aim for a mild mannered engine with broad Powerband. You should still be able to make burnouts for distance I agree with this completely. My 9.7:1 406 with iron 034 B...

Re: Vortec intake runners

You seem to have a nice garage. You could easily machine the vortec heads for threaded rocker studs yourself with minimal cost. Summit sells a tool that works as a stud puller and a guide for the tap as well. They also sell a mill to mill the boss for guideplates if you prefer to use them. Of course...

Re: 400 SBC build

If it’s useful at 4.165” bore I wouldn’t hesitate to use it as a mild street engine like you are planning. But that’s just something i would do…

Re: Real Budget Vortec Engine build

I thin there was some reference to tractor pistons early on in this thread-because of the 5/64 ring pack and/or weight..... I wonder what lighter pistons with skinny rings would have done for this build? Anything given the rpm range??? Im sure it would be worth a little. Less friction, better seal....

Afr 227 & stud mounted rocker arms

Has anyone here had good experience with offset stud mounted rocker arm on a street/strip engine here or would the 220 heads be a better option on a street driven engine ?

Re: Is a cam swap worth the hassle

Are you allowed to use MSD Grid to control the timing ? What’s the tune for your 175 hp shot of nitrous ? 106 lsa cam is not a ðroblem with this amount of nitrous. But i feel the 28 degrees of timing is to much. Have you read the plugs while tuning the nitrous ?

Re: What SBC do you like best?

I am allergic to 350's. Always ran good but not enough torque for me. My 355" SBC in my boat would get your attention. It's 10:1 with ported 492 heads, Performer RPM, and Holley 600. RPM---TQ--BHP 3200--436--266 3400--443--287 3600--445--305 3800--444--321 4000--443--337 4200--440--352 4400--440--3...

Re: Contact at comp cams

i bought a custom cam last week from comp. I talked to 2 different people on the tech line. My experience was, either buy a catalog cam that they suggest or tell us what you want for a custom cam and its your baby. I also filled out the cam recomendation form from Bullet and got no response and i e...

Contact at comp cams

Hello fellow racers. I’m eyeballing a custom camshaft from comp cams. Does anybody here know a smart knowledgeable contact to talk to about this matter ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Camshaft questions for 434 with small heads

I did think about going with a simple flat tappet camshaft. But i’ Not sure that it fits because of the long stroke because of the base circle. A flat tappet camshaft lobe is considerably narrower on the flank than a normal small base circle roller lobe. However, if the rods are not "stroker" rods ...
