Re: Tow Truck Engine

Your best bet for using your existing 406 engine would probably be using 75cc AFR heads 180cc and a decent hydraulic roller camshaft with your solid roller lifters. It’s not the optimal set up but it works just fine. It will make tons of low end power and still be cheaper than buying or building ano...

Re: Leftovers/junk 388 SBC

Great job! I love builds like these. Probably more than the high end stuff. What casting number are on the heads

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build

Mark. You talk about a 10hp difference on the dyno with a 750 (950hp) is your carb with a 1.3/4” base plate ? I really think the 950hp would work great on your combo. It has a very strong signal with the small-ish venturies yet has a larger throttle bore than the 750 and should pull harder on the to...

Re: Intake swap worth it on this?

His best bet for an increased power in the rpm range he’s looking for is a stock 4 barrel intake and a quadrajet on top. Too bad he doesn’t want that power

Re: My CompCams Cam Card ECL Question

5 minutes ... really? The width of a line on a degree wheel is more than that. .05 X 60 = 3..... 3 minutes It is half a second … On the minute pointer so it’s not even measurable. 1 minute on a clock every 6 degrees remember. I don’t know how big of a degree wheel you would need to get an accurate ...

Change the heads and keep your current camshaft. It will pick up significantly

Hopefully the invisible man will be hovering around the starting line and you will hit a great 60ft times to meet your goal

Best of luck racing and please keep us updated.

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build

The engine looks great in the car. Such a clean engine bay. Based on how your friends Camaro runs at what i assume is heavier weight I think your goal of a 6 sec 1/8 and 10 sec 1/4 mile et will be well within reach. Can you tell us what converter you’re using and what stall speed ? I saw you said 4....

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build

What carburetor on that ‘69 and how is it set up ?
Sounds more like a lean spot at the transition rather than it begin overly rich

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build

I got some bench racing for you, I think our 5/64 ring 350 is going to runs 10s........ Why wouldn't I be surprised? You did say once that's it's gear and transmission /converter that count. You've got that covered with 4.56's I would think. Being a mid 80's Camaro, as is mine, you've certa...

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build

Sounds very interesting. There’s nothing better than a drag test. To bad they’re not as popular to share as engine dyno testing.

Can you tell us a little bit about the test car ? And where you race ?

Longer valves and valvetrain geometry?

How is it with 23° sbc cylinder head using stud mounted rocker arms with increased valve length +.100” or even +.200” longer. Like in my case I’m upgrading an older engine i have that uses old Dart II heads. And these heads currently have std length sbc valves 4.911” and to run better, more durable ...

Re: Rebuilding a 350

The standard bore is 4” for a Chevy 350. What he means is the combustion chamber hasn’t been laid back on the intake valve side to help with valve shrouding because of the bigger 2.02 valves. With a fresh flat top 350 with these heads you’re looking at a 10:1 compression based in a few things of cou...
