Re: tips for valve seat freshen up - Methanol

Maybe for final cut...but I would think WD-40 would cause the dust to load the stone and no longer cut.

Re: tips for valve seat freshen up - Methanol

Might want to think twice on grinding copper seats. That dust is real bad for your lungs. If I had to do it I would wear a respirator.

Re: Valve lock ok to use?

I could understand not wanting to chance it, especially if I was a business owner and it was a customers engine that I would potentially have an issue with and end up costing me money. I see that side of this yeah. Unless the lock is cracked or there is a major deformity in the groove of the lock......

Re: Eagle connecting rod burnt cap

I ran one like that also. I bought a motor that tore the crank up I assume due to an oiling issue. Two of the rods were bluish like that. I just wire brushed the color off and checked them for size, they were ok so I ran them again. I had not issues, they are still in the engine today.

Re: Valve lock ok to use?

Is there a burr on the surface of the taper? It's hard to see in the picture. If it's just one with a small burr or nick on it, if it was mine I would stone the nick or burr off and put them back in. If you remove the raised area, the lock should still pull tight in the retainer like it was designed...

Re: splash zone epoxy and alcohol

Splash zone and the POR15 gas tank sealer lasted 2 seasons in my intake port. It was not loose or leaking but was just starting to peel at the edges. When I freshened the heads I reapplied the epoxy and sealer.

Re: Melling SharkTooth Oil Pumps and High Pressures: Is this a problem?

I have the shark tooth pump in my 355, it's the one they claim as standard volume. It did have high oil pressure the first time I started it. It was over 90lbs when you would rev it. The pump came with 2 springs. I swapped out the spring for the lower pressure one and it helped. The spring that I p...

I would tend to think it's a carburator issue also.

Re: new to forum, new to alcohol question. Thanks

Put a lean out valve on it, I just use a 1/4 ball valve with a hose connected to the intake plenum. Open the valve to bring the idle speed up and put heat in the motor quickly. That will help keep your oil clean and not milk up. If it's not freezing cold outside it should start without gas. Try pump...

Carl's book is a good one. I've read it twice now and have used it to build a transmission or two.

WTB Holley 300-23

Looking for a decent used Holley Pro Dominator tunnel ram with dual 4150 tops. Stripped bolt holes don't bother me, but something that is hacked up probably will. Unported would be best for me or a small gasket match to a 1205/6.

Re: T&D shaft rocker height tool

Check on T&D's website. I'm sure those tools are not that expensive. I just bought some rocker shaft bolts the other day and they were good priced and shipped quickly.
