I'm not an AMC guy, but depending what you are trying to turn that engine in RPM I don't see that camshaft being a choke. On a 427ci engine that you are looking to turn in the 7000-7500 area I think that is ballpark. I would probably like to see it on a 108 LSA, maybe that would help it MPH better.

A stock Windsor with very mild porting on factory heads, a dual plane aluminum intake and a 4bbl carb will make that goal. Why the dual plane? Class rules?

Maybe try another brand of oil and see if the problem continues. Easy way to rule out the oil.
