Re: What's a good CDI box value these days?

Exactly what I've seen also.
Those original old 6al's work great and last for years, the digital stuff Is unreliable and very susceptible to external interference

Re: Rod bearing failure (again)

Gday, You’ve had several people on here offer to help you, but you aren’t giving them any info. Oil system Setup, clearances, bearing type and brands ,piston to head etc etc If you are going to post pics of bearings, put all the mains out on a sheet of paper marked 1-5 and upper and lower, same with...

Re: Rod bearing failure (again)

As the guys have said miles too much timing, distribution will be terrible with a dual plane, do you read plugs or know how to?
They will have told you a story,

Re: Rod bearing failure (again)

Gday,
Post up some pics of upper and lower rod bearings and mains that feed that cylinder
And engine details, clearances, fuel, comp, timing etc,
What do the plugs look like out of that cylinder?
What crank? How is the oil system set up?
Pm me if you like?

Re: Q16 or M5?

G,day, No experience with q16 or m5, In a max effort heads up class the race fuels probably have the edge, but the tuning window is narrow, fuel goes off quick, very easy to hurt the engine if your on the edge, if you drive the car to the lanes and back to your pit it costs an arm and a leg, at leas...

Re: Valve Spring Tester

I know there appears to be a preference for an analog spring force tester. Digital testers can be much more accurate and can provide other benefits. I built a spring force tester using an arbor press, linear position transducer and small load cell. It measures to 0.1lb and records both force and po...

Re: full groove main/roadrace

Blanket statements like this send people down the wrong path Some types of engines require a fully grooved bearing to survive in a performance application due to other design limitations. And have have a look at say a Kawasaki zx14 or Suzuki hayabusa, More hp/cube than most engines out there and ful...

Re: They telling me tight is right.?

G'day,
If it's cut .010, can you get .009 bearings and half shell it?
Too tight for me especially with stock parts

Re: Break in oil magic

G,day,
Was always under the impression that temperature and pressure was needed to get the zinc in the oil to attach itself to the lobe and lifters and create a sacrificial lubricant film

Re: 4779 carb replacement

Gday,
Put a kit in it, wires in the idle jets as mentioned work fine,
I know which carb I would rather have.
Those old ones are awesome, plenty big enough and work properly

SBC oil pump pick ups

G,day, Have an 880 block here with a one piece felpro gasket, 0123320 mexican sump. With a m55hv pump and a 55S1 pickup i have 20mm pick up to pan clearance which i'm not happy with. Old oil pump had an end cover off i think a m155 or 10551 style pump with the 3/4 pick up, who ever rebuilt this last...
