Re: Holley QFT pod. How many turns u runnin?

Secondary setting is usually, with a baseplate that isn't Chinese junk, the minimum that keeps the blades from sticking in the bore. Is this a baseplate that was originally built as 4-corner idle or has it been converted? I agree. With a vacuum secondary Holley, I'll set the secondary blades closed...

Try an Echlin# 229000 from your local NAPA store.

Re: project El cheapo 383 truck engine horsepower estimate

Agree with the answer above.^^ And probably around 400 or so lbs./ft. I run that cam in my shop truck's 355 and it's a nice driving street cam.

Re: Which rings will save this?

I had a similar issue with a 355 sbc that I built about 6 years ago. Had the local and reputable machine shop bore and hone the block .030” over, machine the crank, rebuild the rods, and rebuild the 993-casting heads. Put it all together with a mild elgin cam (A Comp Cam 268h copy), broke the cam in...

Re: Lowbuck Shop/Race Truck Build

Such a cool truck! The faded paint and the over-achieving engine and drivetrain sure would make that a fun truck to hit the cruise-ins in! Not to mention the unsuspecting late-model muscle owners.

Re: Lowbuck Shop/Race Truck Build

Great numbers for a full-weight longbed truck with only 360 c.i.s! And even better in street-trim!

Re: Lowbuck Shop/Race Truck Build

Sounds like a solid combo. I'm thinking, with the right converter, you'll easily get your 11-second pass. How tall of a rear tire is on the truck? Seems like a lot of gear for the 1/4, but maybe not. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: Crower 66000 hydraulic lifters

V12Mech, I had 110 lbs on the seat, but don’t have the open pressures written down anywhere. If I were to guess, I’d say somewhere close to where yours are. I used Isky Rev Lube on the cam, lifter faces, and the rocker tips and pushrod cups. I also used Comp Cam 10w30 break-in oil. I had no issues w...

Re: Crower 66000 hydraulic lifters

I am currently running the Crower Cam Saver lifters on an Elgin 1065 hydraulic cam( copy of the Comp 268h ). I've been running this setup in a mild 355 in my '65 C10 daily driver shop truck for over 3 years without any trouble whatsoever. I would not build another flat tappet cam engine without usin...

Re: 427 SBC Pump gas - Trying to get that 700Hp

I agree with what’s already been said. If the duration numbers you listed for the current cam are .050 numbers, then I feel that they are about 20-25 too big. Also, I don’t think the 1 3/4- 1 7/8 step headers are helping. I’d want at least a 1 7/8 or possibly a 2” primary with a 3 1/2” collector.

Re: Hydraulic flat tappet lifter quality

I recently did a 400 Pontiac engine for a 78 Trans Am. I chose an almost stock cam from Comp. something like 218@.050 with .450 lift numbers. Springs were like 110# and 230# over the nose. I put a set of Lunati Hyd flat tappets. Break in procedures included all the black lube on cam and lifter face...

Re: Lifter bore grooving on a mainly street driven engine

I'm using a set of Crower Cam Saver hft lifters in my shop truck's 355 sbc on a mild hft cam. So far, with at least 50,000 miles on it, no problems at all. Like was said earlier, make sure the lifters rotate in their bores.

Re: PCV vs EVAC

Grant, Maybe I missed it in your description, but how does your system keep oil from being drawn into the intake tract? I'm assuming that you have a hose connecting your adjustable PCV valve to manifold vacuum, either on the carb baseplate or the intake manifold itself. I'm very intrigued by your s...
