Re: Why no Ardun hemi head SBC conversion?

The Infinity V8 DOHC head will fit a SBC. Just have to build a cam drive and deal with water and oil. I've done it with a 4 cyl block that is equivalent of half a V8 (SD Pontiac). It makes 293hp out of 122ci.

Re: If you could print any engine you could imagine

"As a fictional engine, I'd take a modern Superbike engine like the BMWS1000RR and scale it up with a 4" bore, keep the 2" stroke, and make it a V8. Should be a 15,000rpm capable 3.3L (202ci) V8. I'd put it in a small modern Formula Car with all the aero bits. It would be super lightweight as well. ...

Re: What works with a corvair engine

Back in the '70s I built a mid engine dune buggy for autocrossing by taking the full Corvair engine/transaxle and rotating it 180 degrees. Built mounts for suspension etc etc. Required reverse rotation of the engine. At the time Crower made reverse rotation cams and all I needed else was a reverse r...

Re: Mercury (Ford) 289 marine, worth buying?

There is a very long thread about the nickel content question here: https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20092&hilit=high+nickle+block As Jack says, hard rumor to stamp out. Just out of curiosity, beside making it be something other than "cast Iron" what would an actual HIGH nickel f...

Re: Help finding air filter, by dimensions

K&N has a find a filter by dimension function for every shape. if they make it, there is a stock replacement I presume and they list vehicle and crossover applications. Should help. https://www.knfilters.com/dimsearch/index/

Re: Ls headed 4cyl

Thanks for insight guys, the Chevrolet midget that came out back in the 00’s mostly has disappeared. I haven’t seen any in a long while Stewart’s team was one of the few that had/raced them. They were interesting with cam moved to the exhaust side. My brother came home from the chili bowl with a ca...

Re: Ford mech fuelpump for Webers

Don't know about the pump but Aeromotive now makes a special regulator for low pressure systems like this. I have one for mine but haven't got it all together to test yet. https://aeromotiveinc.com/product/low-p ... regulator/

Well, if Gaerte built it they probably had a reason (might have worked, might not). Someone should ask them.

Re: Modern Engines & Static CR vs. Boost Levels?

The old school way (think WWII bombers) of combating high cylinder pressure and heat, was more octane. I’ve read that fully loaded bombers were using leaded fuel in excess of 150 octane. Yikes! No different than 60s muscle cars.. the knowledge and computational / engineering ability wasn’t there to...

Re: exhaust calculation, 4 cylinder

Curious what you are using to model the engine? Pipemax will make suggestions but (at least in the earlier versions, I don't have the latest) not show you results of changes. Vannik's (member here) EngMod4T will do that and more.

Re: Fuel Requirements

David's estimate of 3.26 lbs/min is 32.6 gal/hr which is not so different and if you use a somewhat better BSFC than the .5lbs/hp/hr you are using which many engines will beat then yours is even closer to his.
