Re: High nickel blocks? Vortec heads??
It doesn't have to be any difference in the alloy for it to be a difference in hardness, some foundries cool the casting when they are trying to make up time and that's pretty noticeable when you machine them.

Re: Dual Plane Dual Quad
I believe Richard Holdener tested one or two on YouTube and they seem down on power compared to regular dualplane.
There might be some that's better, and I don't recall the exact numbers, maybe still an option for cool looks if a slight power penalty is okay.

Re: The Top End Retard
It's not uncommon in 2 strokes, but that's because the increased egt will extend the rpm band of the pipe.

Re: Intresting take on a new engine design. 8cylinder 2 connecting rods, pivoting pistons.
It's been posted on various social media platforms for years and years every couple of months or so.
I don't think anything new has happened for a good ten years or so, but maybe they'll find a place for it in the future. Cool idea nonetheless.

Re: Piston oil squirters in NASCAR engines
Amazing we are talking about an engine that runs between 8000 and 9000. Why people think the Normal engine is even close really has me flabbergasted. I dont think rpm qualifies the need or lack there of for squirters. Could be useful for high load engines regardless of rpm like a boat engine. Turbo...

Re: Piston oil squirters in NASCAR engines
Considering how much of the friction is from the rings I doubt they would help cool the pistons more by being wider. Most modern engines also run oil with lower viscosity and that will also change things. There's production engines that both come with and without oil squirter and there's no differen...

Ducati still use it. Maybe less useful with 4 valves these days.

Re: Edelbrock C357 flow capabilities
Maybe talk to these guys, I believe they have posted results on different socialmedia platforms. http://www.autotrendefi.com/efi-2g.html I believe a 2X4 was tested by Richard Holdener and it was down on power everywhere compared to a regular dual plane. I guess some runners are just too short and th...

Re: Can A Big 2 Stroke Single Make Power Without An Expansion Chamber?
I've seen engines not developed for expansion chamber double their output just by adding that.
On a engine developed and tested with expansion chamber I expect a lot more than half the power lost by removing it.

Re: Shot peening piston crown?
Aluminum tend to behave very differently than steel, one part of this is that the oxidize layer is a lot harder than the material itself.
I believe I read somewhere that some people that used/tried micro peening on piston skirts had more failures, but I can't recall right now where I read that.

Re: Ring Pack Thickness: Question
For something that you use a lot the benefits of improving fuel consumption can pay for some as well, a hp of fuel is getting expensive these days.
I believe Total Seal mentioned that they had made 0.6mm rings, not sure for what though.

Re: Why would you want a electric car ?
I'm sure the technology will develop more quickly now and a lot of things we might worry about will be dealt with and improved. That might include infrastructure acting like our gas stations today, for instance auxiliary batteries of standardized form. I also believe that hybrids will be improved gr...

Re: 2-stroke small engine upgrade
Back in the early '70's, when I was running my dirt bike, one of the MC magazines, ran a oil test, testing the extreme lubricating quality of oil. It was done by pressing a stylist with a radius, on to a plate, to measure drag resistance. Even though, there were some synthetics on the market then, ...

Re: Why would you want a electric car ?
They still burn oil here in Europe for electricity, not as main source but it's still used, especially now when it's cold. Yes it was the price during one hour or so, it moves all the time, it's been somewhere between that price and say $0.5 for the last couple of weeks. I'm not saying that it's a ...
