Re: Tapered seat spark plug thread repair..

Timesert makes the best kit in my opinion. They have inserts for the taper seat plugs. Where are you located ? Might be easier to see if your machine shop has the kit and let them do it. The kit is kind of expensive for a one time deal. https://www.timesert.com/ Really the only way to go for repair...

Re: advice on valve guide replacement on alu head

I remember that I measured the guides with a 3 point mic. I retrieve the original 2012 measurements. 2 intake: 0.342" (8,71 mm) 2 Exhaust: 0.343" (8,71mm) 4 Intake 0.343" (8,715mm) 4 Exhaust 0.343" (8,715mm) 6 Intake 0.343" (8,72 mm) 6 Exhaust 0.343' (8,715 mm) 8 Intake 0.343" (8,72 mm) 8 Exhaust 0...

Re: advice on valve guide replacement on alu head

Dart heads use a very thin guide Dave, Curious why you say that ? I have only done a few but the ones I have done have had pretty typical .502" od guides. I actually just went and looked at a couple of guides I have on the shelf and thats what they are. Personally I have not had problems with guide...

Re: advice on valve guide replacement on alu head

I'm not doing this myself but will bring them to my machine shop but need to know what to choose. I think Dart performed a pretty bad job on the guides as the heads only have about 4k miles on them. It does not really seem to matter what brand when assembling bulk parts the QC is lost because of th...

Re: Quick Valve Guide Check: Question

Well, like the title of the thread says: Quick Valve Guide Check. I'd say from the replies that there really isn't such a thing. While I'm confident that the guides aren't worn as I have build notes from when they were toast, they shouldn't be considering the mileage (around 8K) and the amount of e...

Re: advice on valve guide replacement on alu head

Dart heads use a very thin guide and replacements can be had in undersized ID's to suit a correction but checking the ID and OD for runout is important so as not to change the original guide and stem center line. After you get new replacement guides from Dart that are .001 undersized of your stems b...

Re: Budget Parkerizing flat tappet cams at shop

We groove the lifter bores for increased oiling to the lifter foot as the lobe meets the lifter. i also just send them to a local cam grinder and get the lobe taper corrected and call the new cam a core and correct the mass produced POS cam so they live. I have a inline pair of 250 6 cyl. engines an...

Re: Budget Parkerizing flat tappet cams at shop

Those lifters were no problem to get back when that engine was built. It was a good idea for sure and the design was brilliant but some QC issues with the pucks coming off and no replacements then they were gone it seems forever. We had a set we used to burnish cams before using tool steel lifters ...

Re: Budget Parkerizing flat tappet cams at shop

Are those lifters even available??> While the spring load you noted is not even close to what they can handle having used them years ago before they were outlawed in some class's. They would be a solution albeit a costly substitute but since we are most likely referring to a GM factory block why did...

Re: Budget Parkerizing flat tappet cams at shop

I have to agree with Mike on checking and confirming the lobe taper for issues. I just looked at a pair of merc.165 cams for the GM 250 engines and they were basically flat or straight. No Lobe Taper!!! Since these are basically the same cam just longer but suffer from the same issues. Since these a...

Re: PLEASE HELP, need valve stem ht for obscure engine

That is the reason to measure all the tip heights before you do any machine work. Number the valves as to there original location stamps are the best way as they don't wipe off That way at least you can put it back the way it was and know it would be not too much preload if spec's are not available....

Re: Chrysler ShortRams

The '62 was a completely different deal than the later short ram intake. https://i2.wp.com/www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/1961-Plymouth-Sonoramic-314.jpg?w=599&ssl=1 I remember a similar intake on the 59-60 or 61 Chrysler Imperial. Man that thing was cool for a big boat. Too ...

Re: Valves for supercharged LS

Thank you for the reply. Planning on 14-20 psi. It'll have a cam, which means more spring pressure. There is a hollow sodium filled GM valve. I think it comes in the LS9? And there's a titanium GM valve. They aren't super expensive, but I don't know if they are decent. I like Manely stuff. but some...

Re: Valves for supercharged LS

The LT4 in the corvette used Ti and inconel valves. They did seem to last for the boost they were under. Depending on what your doing for boost everything has their limit. The intakes I am told are made for GM by Del-West, They make a very good valve. Not sure on the exh. valves but again they seem ...
