Re: Can A SBM Crank Be Machined for a 1.88 Rod ?

I am finishing a build using a Honda journal size rod and its a PITA/ The bearing options are not that great as there is a 1.880 and 1.889. while there is cranks available with this size up to 4,180 stroke/ Molnar sells a crank with both 340 and 360 main sizes but they made them for Dave Hughes and ...

Kwik Way FN bar

Hi guys I have a KW FN bar thats been sitting in the corner for years as the air center head was crashed 1 to many times byt I want to put it back into service. I talked to the KW guy and hes asking $4000 for the parts. I called a couple years ago and was quoted about half that cost to do the same a...

Re: How can I get this to seal?

The carb base is flat. The manifold flange is flat except for that eroded area on the left side. I'm going to try the $10 solution first (RTV). If that doesn't work, then off to the machine shop. Thanks for the suggestions. Here's something to consider RTV silicone in not for use with gasoline. I d...

Re: Intake swap worth it on this?

The 2bbl will give you more low end and the Rochester carb does work well for this application. Putting a 4bbl intake on it will kill what GM already designed well. Making the throttle bores in the intake slightly larger and putting a balance port between the divider wall much like an H pipe in the ...

Re: Speedmaster block Quality in 2023

I recently picked up their double adjustable pushrod length checker. It looked like a nice piece with a super wide adjustment range. Turns out it was .040 off. I set the length to match a pushrod with a 12” caliper. So checker and pushrod both measure the same oal. Actual pushrod had .040 more prel...

Re: Flat Tappet cams & lifters

Noisy is the complaints I hear. I see HD heads from time to time and the valve train parts on some new replacement heads just seem to float around over the guides also causing noise.

But I am told by the local HD guys the GM lifter is much better then the HD lifter.

Re: BBC Heads

Personally I would go with the 781 castings. They take all the std valve train parts and there is less chance of pulling a thread insert if using stud rockers and the extra costs that go with non common parts. Guys worry about the exh guides leaking but theres a fix for that. Pull them and ream to ....

Re: Flat Tappet cams & lifters

Some use a roller hyd. lifter and I have been told that there is some GM factory roller lifters that sub in place of the HD lifters. I would contact Johnson lifters ( not Hy-lift Johnson ) as they produce a high end roller lifter and I am told that have restarted production on FT stuff for solid lif...

Re: What's the deal with Atlas engine cylinder sleeves?

The modern Rover engine uses a straight sleeve in an alloy block. While they come loose over time the fix is a flanged sleeve so they stay put for ever. The original blocks used a chemical retainer of some kind but they were prone to cracking behind the sleeve as well but its funny when they start t...

Re: BBC Heads

Liberty heads look just like all the other china heads. There's a ton of them out there you can use, I would get them bare and add my own parts and get a good valve job done. X2 There is lots of those off shore heads out there but again get them bare and add some better quality parts. There is real...
