Re: Question for Tuner

A member has kindly sent me the Fed Mogul manual, which describes this hole. It is an air bleed, purpose of which is to smooth the transition from the low to the high speed cct & improve part throttle economy.

Re: Question for Tuner

I am not sure, have not seen those on Holley carbs. Add more air? The holes I am talking about are on the underside of the booster.

Question for Tuner

Tuner. Referring to the Carter AVS carbs that were used on Chrys engines from 1968 to 1971. Specifically, the primary venturiis which are secured with two screws. What I call the 'bridge': the section or arm that connects the main body to the booster ring. I have seen some where there is a hole dril...

Re: Flat Tappet cams & lifters

Why would you revert from a superior design???? HD started using roller lifters in 1929. Waaaay ahead of the pack. And not just roller, but needle roller......

Re: LS cruise timing

Are they not known for a very efficient chamber design? If so, that means less timing under all conditions.

Bullet & Comp Cams also have custom lobes, listed on their website.

Re: pertronix rpm limit

There might be a fault with the Crane unit. If the XR700 maxes out at 8500 rpm with a 4 cyl, it produces the same number of sparks per minute as an 8 cyl at 4250 rpm. They run higher rpms than that with 8 cyl engines.

Re: pertronix rpm limit

Don't you mean 8500 with a 4 cyl is 4250 with an 8 cyl?

Re: Smaller Cam..Retard or Not?

The only way to know for sure....is to try it. Are you ok for V to P clearance if you retard it?

Re: Anyone know what size this is?

Most likely 5/16". If it is in really tight, good chance you will snap off the socket end.....even with a preliminary prayer to Allah.....
If it is an iron head, heat up the plug with oxy to cherry red & feed candle wax into the joint. When it cools down, it will come out easily....

Re: HEI pulling timing. Any solutions?

The retardation of the timing with a magnetic pick up ign is an electrical issue, not a mechanical one. It is caused by distortion of the AC sine wave generated by the pick up & the distortion increases with RPM.

Re: valve timing events??

I read this about Harold Brookshire. He got in at the start of the computer age & was a computer programmer for a state govt dept [ I believe it was Missouri, but not 100% sure ]. The work had nothing to do with IC engines. He then joined Comp Cams when they opened in the mid 70s & designed ...

Re: camshaft intake valve closing

Stan,
That was my understanding of the testing, LSA was a conclusion not a reason for the testing. The tests were done to gain information about cam events.
