Re: Hydraulic flat tappet lifter quality

Thanks for the info everybody. F-bird, I was going through some old parts and I found these GM lifters, are these the ones you were referring to as the taxi cab ones?. I was hoping CamKing or someone with recent experience chime in to identify the ones Howard’s sell as being of decent quality to use...

Hydraulic flat tappet lifter quality

Helping a friend assemble a 400 small block for his El Camino. Prior to this he has wiped several cams in another 350 engine. I remember Mike (CamKing) saying there is only one company in the US manufacturing a quality hydraulic flat tappet lifter, can’t remember which Johnson or Johnson high-lift. ...

Your question has been answered, but I'm still curious what the "0.30" refers to on your header?

Re: Cam grinding to customer spec - Data requirements

Mike will have to weigh in if this is his preference, but I'd recommend your sitting down with your best engine-car-guy friend and tell him exactly how you intend to operate the engine/vehicle and what is your budget for the entire project. Have him write it down and read it back to you. When you've...

so the stock ring grooves are mandated, but does that mean you cant run a thinner ring with a spacer under it?
[/quote]

lefty o, you can run a thinner ring, however, the ring groove spacer goes on the top side of the ring groove.

I buzzed through the 12 pages of this thread on stock eliminator secrets, anybody mention ring spacers? https://dragracingonline.com/archive/technical/vii_9-pistonrings-1.html?back=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fsearch%3Fclient%3Dsafari%26as_qdr%3Dall%26as_occt%3Dany%26safe%3Dactive%26as_q%3Din+NHRA...

Question for head porters

What is the hourly rate range that head porters charge, knowing it probably varies by location and job quality or do quote customer per job? What is the best way for you to advertise your porting service?

Re: Blocking exhaust crossover on cast-iron heads

The gasket works fine for blocking off exhaust flow but that open passage below it is just going to hold heat and make for a hotter exhaust seat in that cylinder I would think Yes, Also this engine is susceptible to pinging on hot days So I’m hoping this will help. And possibly minimize heat soak a...

Re: Blocking exhaust crossover on cast-iron heads

Thanks for your advice big bro. I would be OK with that, however, my friend who is grinding these heads, Who works out of a small one car garage wants to be able to contour the area where the exhaust port and crossover meet. I’ve been searching for foundries near him, he is three hours away and if t...

Re: Blocking exhaust crossover on cast-iron heads

Thanks for all your replies. It seems like the general consensus is to melt aluminum to fill the exhaust crossovers. I talk to the guy grinding on these heads And he doesn’t have an adequate torch to get the aluminum to melt. Stuffing thick aluminum foil in there sounds easy enough, however, he want...
