Re: Speedmaster aluminum block

I haven't had that problem, I have built hundreds of aluminum engines. And had a few back to back te sts. The most I lost was about 1.5 %. I would never build a 12" deck height 5.100" bore engine out of cast. The block alone would weigh probably 7-800lbs. Maybe your issues were ring seal....

Re: Speedmaster aluminum block

For crying out loud, will you children stop it. 13 pages of name calling and nothing learned. Go get a Snickers. Even that won't help. You have people who are professional argument makers. You can post your real world experience, backed up by professional people no less that Larry Meaux and Darin M...

Re: Speedmaster aluminum block

Well its a good chance i likely have years on you but what the hell. The target moved about as much as you and Lykins's moved it also. If you guys dont like the alloy fine. No sweat off my butt. The point is mild to wild they are working thats what most of us are pointing out. The rail i just point...

Re: Speedmaster aluminum block

.. There is a time when aluminum becomes mandatory. Anything with a blower making 3.5 HP/CID will need an aluminum block. The original architecture won't support that much load. The block has to flex at that point. If it doesn't, it will fail.. Good point! It's not exactly the same, but one could d...

Re: Speedmaster aluminum block

Pretty strong words stats. Im not sure who u referring to snot noses. But I'll give you benifit of doubt. It wasn't mine but it does show what can be done. I think the 4stroke 1000 cc motor is impressive to say the least hair dryer or not. If you add that figure to auto industry you are talking mor...

Re: Speedmaster aluminum block

And comments like Stats (and those like him) are why this place has lost a ton of credibility. At least the Advanced Section is still okay... going back to lurking... So you put a hair dryer on a 2 stroke and get 7.78 HP/CID. Big deal. That's your problem. You are moving the target. You, and a coup...

Re: ICL vs. .050” Cam Degreeing Methods

hung up on the stop, the mag base dial indicator can be installed removed faster than i can whip this out, and .050" is always .050" or you can use .100" or any value you like the center of 2 points on the wheel is always the center of 2 points shoot dropped a bolt, now where's the w...

Celsius, I miss typed this.
Chris, thanks for the correction.

Another example of the metric system jacking shit up. Also, look into SUS for oil viscosity measurement. Also look into centipoise (spelling may be wrong) as its part of the same set of measurements.

Re: Speedmaster aluminum block

That's just not true. Aluminum heads give up nothing to cast iron as far as power goes. A block is a totally different deal. BTW, IDGAF about overhead cam 4 cylinder junk and what they do. They are nothing but play toys. We had a 4 cylinder piece of overhead cam junk at track this weekend putting o...

Re: Speedmaster aluminum block

Aluminum heads won't produce as much HP as iron...all things equal. So what? When you need aluminum to be competitive you use what you need. And in oval track racing the most hp doesn't always win. Brent I've read your posts here since I joined...always had good things to contribute. But this threa...

Re: Oil for the fix....

The old Joe Gibbs stuff. Driven BR30. After breakin, Driven Hot Rod and Mobil 1 High Mileage work great. AFter that any oil with a centistoke number of under 20 at 100 degree F. I just want to make sure I get this right, I am looking for an oil with an cSt@40*C of less than 20? The mobile1 high mil...

Re: ICL vs. .050” Cam Degreeing Methods

Why not use a stop? I can do it faster without a stop. And just as accurate. So I don't bother with it. Probably not, but then, just as in measuring, it comes down to the size of the wheel and the resolution of the gauge. So please explain your gauge method? The same way I find the center of lift o...

Re: ICL vs. .050” Cam Degreeing Methods

How does everyone else locate exact TDC? My method is to use a piston stop - plate that bolts to the deck with a large dia bolt in the middle, set to stop the piston roughly 30 deg from TDC, wind the motor over both ways & split the difference, set the degree wheel pointer & verify. For deg...
