Re: Any remedies for plantar fasciitis
Think of your arch+Achilles+calf (soleus) muscle as one big assembly. Windlass is the term, I think. Think also that to have the healthy slight upward curve, the foot-bottom flat plantar muscle set can't be bowstring tight, because a curve is a longer "line" than a straight one. So you wan...

My experience leans more toward Bill-C being correct than AF2, here.

Re: GM's new 4.2L DOHC twin turbo V-8 !!
Bazman, I don't even know where to start- 200,000 km is half what we expect from a modern car here in Canada (and the US I'd assume). I don't know where you live, Holland maybe? But you just don't get the need in other parts of the world, for durability. We who are critical, are not talking faults i...

Re: exhaust on a limited circle track class
You could combine that cam spec and that RPM range/duty if you had really good head- like unlimited. But you don't. So it's a question of keeping the valve open longer to get the fill time you need. You are correct in going with a single pattern tight lobe separation grind, but my guess is you are 1...

Re: Nikasil cylinder plating
the last years of the Vega/Astra had the same engine used in the Chevette which was an iron block/head. We did a few of those engines many years back but sleeved them as we seem what the other " GM approved methods" produced for cyl. finishing and the end results were just as bad as the o...

Re: Ford 6.2 As A Performance Engine?
Today I was working on a set of heads brought in by a local Ford dealer off of a 6.2 liter V8. They look really nice and I was curious if this engine has seen much in the way of performance development. I was at the Big Ford Bash about 10 years ago when Don Bowles had an engine which I think was a ...

The sanctioning bodies got fat and lazy (corrupt might be a stronger but accurate term). To me what we see now in NASCAR, Prostock, Fuel, etc, is what we'd have had if in 1964 all sanctioning bodies had insisted on sticking with a rule of only flat heads being allowed to race. The relevance is not t...

Re: New subaru billet blocks
Aircraft application? Years ago I machined a Subaru engine for a guy and after he paid for it and loaded it up he told me that he was building an experimental airplane and using the Subaru engine in it. I never heard back from the guy. I don't know if that is good or bad. He can just pull over on a...

Mazda is also the same company who had to have a US representative go to Japan and SHOW them that their cars were easily broken into faster than using a key, without damage. Why would someone do that? They have a key, they would just use that. If they don't have a key, it's not their car, who would...

Back to the Packard (since I can fill a page with my thoughts engineers- inline with the last two posts, and... all I'd get out of it is heartburn). The intake flow was 305-308cfm. In an Edelbrock-head-Pontiac with heads that have been worked a bit, that CFM # is enough to support 640hp. Other guide...

Re: When are siamesed center exhaust ports a liability on a
Ed Henneman (Headers by Ed) was adamant the siamese tube had to be of altered diameter. IIRC his very first header was for his split port Pontiac, and that car got more than a dozen sets of headers built for it over the years.
