440 ci ls engine timing chain

Im building a 440 ci ls engine 12.5 to compression brodex br7 heads with jessel shaft rockers. the open spring pressure is 610. using a comp cams solid 730 lift cam. max rpm 8000. I cant see the factory single roller timing chain being able to handle this kind of abuse. Would a cs 1175 rollmaster ch...

mahle piston failure

what is your assessment of this piston. Looks to me they got to close to the ring land with the valve relief. There is 2 others that broke the top of the piston off in the same spot. this one was on the verge of breaking.

Re: Ls 3 cylinder walls cracked

I got the engine fully torn down today. 6 out of 8 were cracked. The front cylinders were the only ones that were not cracked. The thrust side of the rod bearings have wear and the rest of the bearing looks normal. excessive detonation. The tune was not correct is what im going with on this one.

Ls 3 cylinder walls cracked

Is it common for a ls3 bored to 4.070 to crack the cylinder walls vertically? #3 and #5 . The build is 11.2 to 1. cathedral port trick flow heads, ls6 intake, dry sump 7400 rpm's road race use. 450 hp 445tq at the rear wheels. It also has been losing the ground straps off the spark plugs. I suspect ...

busch north car with a ls spec engine.

Im doing a nascar ls spec engine in my old busch north series car. Does anyone have any pictures of the engine mounts and transmission crossmember on a newer k&n series car equipped with the spec engine? The car had and 18 degree engine in it and this spec engine is not even close.

Re: Dry sump oil pressure

I am going to move the gauge sender to the back of the block. The car still had the stock pressure gauge. The back of the block reading was 65 psi at 7000 rpm 235 degrees oil temp according to the customer. I was pressed for time and lacked an adaptor for a ls3 engine so that's why I took the easy r...

Dry sump oil pressure

I have recently installed a are 3 stage dry sump on a ls3 engine. The oil pressure is being measured at the remote oil filter which is before the oil cooler that is located in the radiator. I am seeing 40 psi at idle and 90 at 7000 rpm's. I would like to see 70 max but is this an accurate place to m...

Summit racing pro ls pistons

Has anyone used these pistons in a ls engine build? They seem to be a high quality piece. I want 10.8 to 11 to 1 and they are the only option without decking the heads excessively on a 3.903 piston 6.15 rod and 3.6 stroke

converting to dry sump

Im converting a factory ls3 block for a dry sump. Im thinking of taping the front oil galley pump inlet with a 3/8 pipe and installing a plug. Is this the best way to do this or is there a better option and should I leave the barbell in place?

I wish the LS7 blocks would come back down to earth in price.
Where are you finding that information on the head bolts?

ls9 block

I see the ls9 12623969 bare block has droped from 4000 to 1900 in price. It has oil squirters built in and can handle 635 plus hp. Is there any reason not to use this block over a standard ls3 block for a carbed high rpm engine build?

Being out of the hole is not a problem any more. The block was over bored by the machine shop and is now scrap. Thanks everyone.

Max out of the hole

I'm assembling a ls engine for a friend and from my calculations its going to be .012 -.015 out of the hole. I have a .051 head gasket right now and could go thicker if needed. How much is too much out and what is the min quench I'll be safe at. Ive been told .038 -.040. Its a ls6 with a wiesco forg...
