Re: rpm-act

Really?

Please share with us where you perform your nude "performance art" in public unrestricted, so some of us can avoid it?

So this thread is now devolving into name calling? [-X

Re: rpm-act

I thought it was reasonably clear. Motorsports is Performance Art. How is a person who chooses some form of motorsport to express inner desire any different than a poet or painter expressing inner desire. If we keep letting the overzealous wackjobs have the stage they will convince themselves Miche...

Re: rpm-act

Unity is great and useful, no argument. However whatever case is to be made to support the RPM act, which I strongly do, and have since the first it was proposed, it is always best if the argument is based on sound logical argument. Trying to ride in on the coattails of "art" as a justifi...

Re: rpm-act

Not sure were you are going with this, but the grey area in your argument is when freedom of expression transcends into freedom of action. I can own a gun, and maybe display it many circumstances, but I think most will agree, my rights to shoot it are limited, and that is widely accepted. Same kind...

Re: Cryogenic Machining

What is the potential benefit of just using super cooled current cutting fluids, at a much lower cost? Biggest concern with all metal removal operations ultimately is heat build up at the cutting edge. I would think heat transfer with a liquid would be more efficient that a gas, when nitrogen quickl...

Re: Why are these holes made in crankshafts?

Another way to look at it: In my admittedly oversimplified example a hollow shaft makes better use of the material compared to a solid shaft. Material at the center of solid isn't doing anything except adding weight. The solid material in the middle of a crankpin isn't doing much either except addi...

Re: Why are these holes made in crankshafts?

I have yet to closely review the linked supporting argument for the holes. I suspect the final outcome will be, the lightening holes reduce the loading on the crank in many forms, and making for a better end solution. My original contention was primarily with the statement "that drilling pins a...

Boring the rod and main journals significantly increases torsional strength. Care to explain? Can you summarize...

Re: Future Non static battery placement

Yes it would have an effect, but my thinking much less, much more complicated, and would directly effect the drivers perception of turning, overhang, aero balance etc, and I suspect for the average driver, a potential driving hazard. Regarding no manufacturers not feeling its a worthwhile goal curren...

Future Non static battery placement

So not exactly in the vein of structural battery utilization, maybe heading the alternative direction? My thinking, here out loud, batteries are a large part of vehicle mass with electrics, beyond the motor itself. It seems it needs to be always considered the battery has a useful limited lifespan, ...

Re: Road Race Track/AutoCross 351w

So with reliability and on track mileage primary goals, that is a starting point 6500 rpm shift point motor? Autocrossing tries to emulate a road course in a very scaled down venue. Hence, you shift to your nominal gear before the first timing cone and leave it there for the whole run. At least tha...
