Re: Howards Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters - What In The World?
Could be old stock from 2021. During the covid shutdown nobody had lifters. I bought a set from Howard's back then and they weren't even advertised as us made. I sent them back as the chamfer looked a little rough and the surface finish didn't inspire confidence. I talked to the Howard's rep and he...

Re: GM 880 Engine block
I have an 880 block that was cast in 1996. Its a two bolt main sgi block cast in Canada. It is drilled and tapped for factory roller cam and is fully drilled for a mechanical fuel pump. May have been a replacement motor. It was set up with flat tappet cam and had a tbi style timing cover.

Re: Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam - any issues with 135lb on the seat with 275lb open?
Open pressure at 275 lb seems well within the limits of the GM hyd lifters. I don't know what, if any, effect the seat pressure will have.

Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam - any issues with 135lb on the seat with 275lb open?
I have a set of cylinder heads that is already set up for 1.43 diameter springs that I want to use with a hyd flat tappet cam in my build. I'd like to use ISKY 6005 springs which are 135lb on the seat and 285lb open at .550 lift. My hyd flat tappet cam will have .510 lift with 1.6 rockers which will...

Re: Cast steel
Cast iron is easier to cast in complex shapes, cheaper, machines easier and dampens vibrations better. Also porosity is not as much of a problem with complex iron castings. Austempered ductile iron would give better strength but cost and process capability for something like an engine block most lik...

With an air filter like that I wouldn't be surprised if you have to use a spoon to get the oil out of the pan.

Re: 1991 Ford Ranger 2.3
They are actually a good vehicle for a teenager. My 91 With a 2.3/5 speed took everything my teenage son could throw at it and kept going. He's still driving it lol. He hated it at first because it didn't have a v8 but as he matured he recognized its value as a daily driver that gets 25 mpg on the h...

Re: Can I make a 335 out of my 307 ?
Piston pin bosses require removal of .050" of material from the counterweights to clear with a 5.7" rod. 400 rods only work on paper.

Re: Can I make a 335 out of my 307 ?
If you deck the block .015 -.020" you can regain the lost compression height of the rebuilder pistons and use a steel shim gasket to get your compression up. I have built a few 307's and they are not as bad as everyone says. Their worst feature is the crappy cylinder heads GM stuck them with. I...

Re: Can I make a 335 out of my 307 ?
The Jeep pistons have a larger pin diameter and an 11 cc dish. It can be done but might not have the compression you're looking for.

Re: Can I make a 335 out of my 307 ?
the shorter rods from a 400 won't work either as the pin bosses on the pistons will not clear the counterweights on the crank.

Re: Can I make a 335 out of my 307 ?
The 350 crank fits in the 307 block just fine but I'm not sure what pistons you'll be using with the 5.85" rod. With a standard 5.7" rod they stick out of the hole .070" with the reduced height rebuilder pistons. Ls pistons dont work because the valve reliefs are in the wrong spot for...
