Re: HEI or MSD box
One aspect to a capacitive discharge ignition as opposed to an inductive system is the cd can fire a partially fouled plug and also fire at full energy at a significantly higher rpm due to the way it generates the spark. An inductive ign turns on the coil and builds up a magnetic field (Slow) and th...

I still use my champion spark plug cleaner tester. This is a scope display at full load 10 psi boost.

Re: Well well..I knew it wasn't that lean!
My PLM does free air calibration. I recommend a chassis dyno session to sort out the full throttle mixture jet for best HP and then look at the mixture strength. Plug readings are great especially if your heat range is appropriate. My plm has served me well for 17 years now. I season the sensors in ...

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?
On a chassis dyno at say 40mph set the timming for the highest vacuum at that speed and then road test. Just thinking as the efficiency of the burn reaches optimum you will have less throttle position for the same speed. Your Thoughts ?

Re: Dominator - can't even get it to idle
You do not set the power valve opening by idle vacuum. This is wrong. Mark W has posted a video to you tube proving the power valve won’t open at idle. Thanks, ClassAct. Yes, I remember those discussions here some years back. Always interesting....... https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?...

Re: Dominator - can't even get it to idle
Actually the other way around Harry. Three circuit carbs have a serious issue of part throttle over rich conditions followed by over lean conditions on the top end. The intermediate circuit has it's own feed directly from the float bowl and depending on the feed tube placement, draws fuel early in ...

Find a local chassis dyno, the operator will likely be more experienced in getting your tune up sorted out..

Re: parasitic spark pre-ignition
just wound this video about parasitic spark pre-ignition from bundled spark wires. he has neat test set up and explanations, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YToXdWQEFE . A Service bulletin for small block chevys I believe identified this for cylinders 5 7 and and cautioned to keep the original wir...

Is the term VE also a misnomer ? Doug Roe refers to DE density efficiency..
