Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

Have cam king grind the cam and dont put as much advance in it possibly a retarded position this will work better than retarded ignition timming. Possibly water injection ? Take it to a chassis dyno for initial tuning.

Re: HEI ignition, solid core leads & resistor-less rotor

Energy at the spark plug is effected buy the impedance match between the gap the plug wire and the coil and effects the spark profile that in turn effects the ignition lag time that in turn is effected by the conditions in the cylinder and at the plug gap in particular. Some ignition strategies try ...

Re: 512 mopar getting hot quick.

I have seen " turbulators" in modern automotive radiators and a engineer at Howe radiator told me it is used to disturb the boundary layer in the tubes and increases efficiency. He noted a design he saw in the blueprint for a WW1 German tank radiator.

Re: spark plug heat range?

Find a local chassis dyno and look at afr and do some timming pulls. Looks to cold to me.

Re: Lean mixtures and baked pistons

It's like the timming advancing further back the cycle till the intake stroke is lit and the thermal runaway picks up the pace.
Never thought of it that way.

Re: Lean mixtures and baked pistons

So hi rpm full throttle combustion (as opposed to part throttle) and lean mixtures ( lean side of stoic) can lead to detonation that leads to pre ignition, pre ignition is advanced timming at hi speed and this puts more heat into the combustion chamber and the cycle avalanches and rapidly overheats ...

Re: Lean mixtures and baked pistons

Excess fuel helps cool the combustion chamber, when conditions allow the fuel to go from burning to detonating the pressure spike blows away the insulation properties of the boundary layer allowing the flame to directly touch the piston and it quickly overheats.
Just thinking.

Re: Low vacuum power valve tunning

Where is the o2 sensor located? My experience is long duration cams and low rpms do not lead to reliable o2 readings at part throttle. Try ignoring the o2 and lean it out till driveability suffers and then go back up. What is the map at cruse ? As mentioned part throttle timing is critical.
