Re: SBC 350, 600 horse, connecting rod set

For the next 406 build I picked up a set of Manley I-beam 6" rods with 7/16" cap screw bolts.

Re: non-straight collector extensions?

A few weeks ago I ran an old 400 sbc I had sitting around for some heads testing again. Both times I ran with a 3" mandrel bent exhaust with two 3" electric cutouts and two not so good Flow master mufflers. Guess what? the car on both set of heads I tested went the same 12.26 ET with the cutouts ope...

Re: New spark plug design

Let me see here, he is trying to re-invent the wheel. Years ago I used to J gap all my plugs and it was worth about 1/2 tenth at the track, problem was the plugs were good for about one race. If you need every last thou racing that these may be the hot ticket, but other than what I have seen over th...

Re: solid flat tappet valve lash

I was at a big car show and was talking with one of my old race friends and he says he sets his engine lash cold with aluminum heads to the card specs. I said he was wrong on doing that and giving away hp at the top end plus you will beat the crap out of the valve tips if it's too loose. I asked if ...

Re: Pontiac 400 heads

If a 45°is bad for a Pontiac head makes me wonder why someone would want to run a 50 to 55° seat on a SBC head

Re: 850 Brawler carb tuning

My buddy had one of those QF 850's on his car and had to drop his rear jets by 5-6 to get it straightened out. Only thing to do is fatten it up or lean it out to see what it does. Just keep an eye on the plugs when tuning.

What are you looking to take them down to? I am sure Chad S could shed some light on how much can be milled on those heads.

Re: 434 engine upgrades ?

Hello. A friend if mine has a 434 ultra street engine from Scott Shafiroff. It’s a good engine with decent parts but we are hoping we might be able to pick up some power. Maybe with a camshaft upgrade. The engine was sold as a pump gas engine back in the day but with 11.5:1 compression ratio it’s p...

Ported L-29 Head Test Soon

Just got my conversion head gaskets so I can try out my Ported L-29 BBC heads soon vs my Ported Peanut Port heads, all else will be the same. The L-29's still retain the stock valve sizes as if I were to put in the larger valves there for sure be shrouding and that's counter productive. I was going ...

Re: 406 SBC head recommendations

I ran factory 062 mild ported Vortec's with a smallish hyd cam last year and it was a 10 sec. ride N/A. The non ported 906's ran mid-11's on my flat top piston 406 and low 12's on a dished piston 400 this year. Even if I put a very mild cam in that 406 engine with an LCA of 112° or higher the engin...

Gotta admit it has quite the look. Sort of like the Australian burnout monsters that pop up on YouTube.
Do they make a cowl hood for that.

Re: 496 for a El Camino

In the near future I plan to build a 1970 el Camino black or blue with factory type black stripes. I will build a 496 with GM oval port heads, 228/238 @ .050 111 LS hyd roller, Mahle pistons, 6.385 rod, Performer RPM air gap with the cowl induction hood. Also I will use a old school Moroso deep pan...

I know my AFR CNC competition 210's will make 600hp.
