Re: Question About Sleeving A Block
When I did my apprenticeship 30+ yrs ago we used lithage and glycerine when fitting sleeves for heat transfer between the block and liner. Not real nice stuff 100% lead oxide iirc. I don't know if is still available nowadays though.

Re: Heavy Metal Installation

Re: Welding crank journals
Yes they will survive just fine. I have run them back in performance applications after that type of repair with no dramas, the better weld method is submerged arc weld which is a far better repair than spray welded journals imo. I dont know what the cost is over there but you need to weigh that up t...

Re: Iron Block dip with bronze lifter sleeves ,, remove or ?
Check with the machine shop as to what acid they use. A standard hot tank caustic acid should not bother the bronze bushes alternatively a good spraywash machine will remove most crud and that is usually an alkaline based chemical.

Re: Anyone use Belzona to build up outside of intake manifold runner?
I have used belzona 1111 on pushrod to int runner hole repairs. Its expensive but a very good product , like any epoxy putty sealer or whatever the devil is in the detail, rough surface to attatch to and clean clean clean with acetone ,be patient and let the product cure.

Re: john deere oil gallery plug removal
If you have access to an oxy actetlyne set you can use a normal welding tip not too large, and get the ball to just start to pool then snap the acetylene off and burn thru the ball with the oxygen. Works like a a cutting torch. If you dont have the ball hot enough (metal pooling) nothing will happen ...

Re: New crank cracked?
I have seen lots of forged steel diesel and petrol automotive crankshafts that have cracks like that witch line up with the forging line , its certainly worth giving it a polish with fine emery tape and further inspection. You can get a white background paint and magnetic black particle spray cans f...

Re: CAT 3408 V8 crank balance
A 3408 series is a wet liner engine, you might be thinking of the smaller 3208 series. The 3408 is a split crankpin and i think its a 60 deg v.? Definitly not 90 deg. There is also a couple of different counterweight cranks in this series engine aswell. Warren turner might be able to give you a perce...
