Re: Have you used the Comp Evolution BBC HR lifters

It's been a year later. Has anyone else had any experience with these Evolution Lifters on their BBC? Max lift used and RPM? Anything? Thanks!

Re: Maximum shims under valve Spring Locator Cup

I probably wasn't squeezing the shim and cup hard enough to flatten them out in the picture. Sorry.....I did measure the shims under the Cup and they seem to be a couple thousands less than .060,.030 and .015. That's got to be where that metal is from. .150 .135 should have been the original thickne...

Maximum shims under valve Spring Locator Cup

I was taking my old AFR 325cc 2101-1 springs off today to change them and I noticed a ton of metal shavings under the Spring Locator Cups. I am assuming it has to be from the shims since nothing else could get under the Locator into the Spring Pocket. Unless it was from my old PRW rockers needle bea...

Re: Cam timing at the valve

I never install a cam by the centerline, especially one with asymmetrical lobes. I determine the lobe lift at TDC during overlap of the intake and exhaust for cylinder 1 and align the cam to that mark. I then check to ensure the valve events are happening when they should. I couldn't care less abou...

Re: Cam timing at the valve

Use the .050" lifter rise open close events to degree in the camshaft. Thats why your cam card gives you these specs. If you ten want to further adjust the cam installed position, thats fine. Again use the .050" lifter rise open close events to determine its new position . "cam insta...

Re: Cam timing at the valve

Been wanting to advance the cam since I took my 1.8's off and now use the 1.7's (I had retarded the cam a bit with the 1.8's). But wouldn't the valve open at the same time no matter what rocker ratio was on it (I'm assuming only at zero lash)? I know it would open quicker (and higher lift) and shut...

Re: Cold lash after 500 miles, yikes!

Please don't get F-Bird fired up 😂 This is an old thread created by me. I just updated it for future readers. The content will remain valid for ages. Lets not pollute it with extra arguments. It sucks when a newbie is trying to learn something but has to filter through all the cockfights to find the...

Re: Cam timing at the valve

Thanks Stan! So if my Harmonic Damper reads 3 degrees off I should advance the cam 1.5 degrees, correct? It's easy enough to do once my water pump is off. I have a quick access timing chain cover and Hex Adjust chain. I'm not hoping for more power 😁 , just would like to keep the timing in perfect tu...

Re: Cold lash after 500 miles, yikes!

UPDATE: Years later and over 3000 miles my AFR (Harland Sharp) 1.7 rockers are still holding a good "cold" lash. Thank You Straub for the recommendation! Still a perfect sweep pattern on the valve tip.

Not sure about the lift profile but it is an Asymmetric Cam by UDHarold. Now it's a Lunati # 40110515

Cam timing at the valve

When I built my BBC years ago I timed the cam the Intake Centerline Method. The other day I had the valve cover off and noticed the intake valve didn't open at 42 degrees like my Cam Card wants, it opened at 39 -according to my harmonic damper (my timing tag is spot-on TDC). After the lash is taken ...

Re: Have you used the Comp Evolution BBC HR lifters

I used a set in a BBM. Indy heads, 1.6 rockers, .380 rpm friendly lobes. We ran it to 6300(peaked at 6k), no signs of any unhappiness, and pretty quiet. Driven BR40 oil. I was pretty happy with them. Have a Pontiac going on the dyno soon that will be using them, XE type lobes, will be trying 1.5 an...

Re: From a solid roller to hydraulic roller

I have finally had enough with my 10:1 compression 540 solid roller on the street. Runs very good at WOT but not very streetable in the cruising rpm's, especially with the A/C on and cruising the freeway with my OD trans (at those low rpm's there just isn't any torque). My current SR is 286/296 - ....
