Re: Can a steel flywheel be machined?

Let me clear up some myths about machining flywheels here. I make steel flywheels for custom applications etc, they are made from 1010 or 1020 steel plate. It does,nt matter how much heat and abuse a steel flywheel receives - it is still easy to re - machine on a lathe, even if you use HSS cutting t...

Re: static vs dynamic compression ratios

I worked with a Ford Engineer in Australia who used to be in charge of prototype engine calibration in the UK. He told me many things that went on in the dyno test cells etc They always measured DCR and combustion pressures etc with transducers in the combustion chamber. The OEM,s monitor every par...

SB2.2 Fuel Pump Diaphragm

Need help locating replacement diaphragm for SB2.2 Nascar engine 2006 Pump is CV Products part no. 5505 - 24 Searching on line no luck so far, a Holley part we have looks similar, but the spring spec etc is unlikely to be correct. I think CV is no longer in business. Any info greatly appreciated. Ch...

Re: Fel Pro rear seal issues

Regarding Felpro SBC rear main seal leaks, is it the seals or is it the surface finish on the new cranks ? Maybe some of the cheaper crankshaft manufacturers are paying little attention to the RA on the seal area. Everyone here hates RM leaks with a passion right ? Before i install a new crank, I pu...

Re: PCV Air Oil Separator or Catch Can

The M/E Wagner one linked above is the one that caught my attention. I like the idea... not so much the price. What can I say- when you need it......no more oil in the plenum and I'm sure tuning is easier without any oil migration into the cylinders- less anyway. don't overlook working on the valve...

Thanks for the link, that is a real nice item, looks like quite a bit of development and test work has gone into it.

PCV Air Oil Separator or Catch Can

I have always used oil catch cans for performance street/ strip cars, but they are a bit large in some applications. Is a PCV oil / air separator better than a catch can ? given that it is pulling a small vacuum on the crankcase. Moroso make a small air / oil separator , that is very compact compare...

Re: MSD Distributor Drive Gear type

Again far from an expert, but it has always been my understanding that you should use a distributor gear that is softer than the camshaft gear. Idea being if you wipe out a gear it's easier to replace the distributor gear than to replace the camshaft or cam gear. I think iron on iron is ok, it's wh...

Sidedraft Webers are pretty hard to beat for tuneability and fuel distribution right ? especially on a Holden 6.
Is the setup more about the look ? Don,t get me wrong - different is great !

Re: Gen 1 SBC oil filter bypass

This filter bypass can't cause higher pressure than what the pump pressure relief allows, even if the filter is collapsed and completely blocked. Exactly, and this valve is really a pressure differential valve , if you have had any hydraulics experience, you will know this, when the oil is cold and...
