Re: DIY CNC-Valve seat cutting machine: Air-Cushion vs. Fixed spindle?

Are you telling me how to do it? Lol Why can the spindle designed to tilt 5 degrees if it has no purpose hot shot? Original question is a DIY seat cutting machine. I'm not telling you to do anything. Building a rotating spindle, or air float spindle for a DIY is bringing in complications that aren'...

Re: DIY CNC-Valve seat cutting machine: Air-Cushion vs. Fixed spindle?

The serdi ball-joint mounted spindle is a lot easier if doing canted valve heads. Guides only need to be within a degree or two of vertical, not perfectly vertical. Will you be doing heads with canted valves? If your spindle is always perfectly fixed vertical then that means you need to get each gu...

Re: DIY CNC-Valve seat cutting machine: Air-Cushion vs. Fixed spindle?

Fixed spindle, your design. Use an old air float table. I've built cnc machines too. Anything can be done with time and money. Sometimes it's not cheaper to do it yourself. I've cut seats on a bridgeport for years. It cuts a decent seat.... but it takes way too long... and yes I've built fixtures to...

You will need air float table. Indexing each seat by indicating takes way too long.

Look for an old seat and guide machine with air table and use that for your base

Accu finish tool sharpener

I have a Accu-finish carbide sharpener.

Uses 5" flat disk carbide wheel. I believe it's rebranded by Goodson.

Looking for cheaper alternative disks, and what grit is recommended? I believe it's fine on there now... It seems like it should be coarser

Re: Math Problem

Without doing the math on this particular problem, I have done the math on a valves force in a running engine.

Rough guess, at 7000 RPM , the uneven forces your piston is seeing due to the weight asymmetry is probably around 400lbs difference heavy to light side

Ti parts have a fatigue life. After X amount of hours you don't trust.

Re: CFD/CAD/Thread

I looked at Converge... I didn't understand what they meant for a trial? 500,000 meshes and under will be unlimited free forever? Large files are pay as you go ?

Re: CFD/CAD/Thread

I had an interesting discussion with a CFD engineer. His career was mostly involved with simulation of fuel motion and burning as it relates to fuel efficiency, emissions and durability mostly. Detroit passenger cars and trucks, some high performance OEM stuff but not purpose built racing engines. ...

Lots of depends.
Ummm no. You have a tight squish to REDUCE detonation

Re: Valve springs dimensions cross reference

OD .816"
ID .568"
OAL 1.807"
WIRE DIA .122"
105lbs @ 1.04"

Just looking for 10 to 15lbs more across the range. If new spring was 115 to 120 @ 1.04" that would be fine.

It's a diesel turbo application that will see a lot of miles.
