Mexican Vortec heads?
Just got a set of 062 Hecho in Mexico castings, has 11 under the runners which I assume is the year on them and was on a 602crate. On this particular casting does it have the normal 170cc runners or do they have 159 runners? Was only planning to do clean up work on the exhaust side and maybe bowl cl...

Re: Porting sbc heads?
What is the opinion on using the 083 corvette head with this combo?
I gather it is a precursor to the vortecs with similar chamber plug boss. I notice Carnut had done a few post in regards to it as well as on youtube.
I'm open to different ideas. Would it match up the a 2701 edelbrock intake?

Re: Porting sbc heads?
I would love to use vortec but seems I can’t find a cheap usable set and more than likely may have to buy new.

Re: Porting sbc heads?
I have built some budget 355:s with the L98 aluminum heads. Stock they flowed 180 CFM in and I got them up to 240CFM at .500" using 1,94-1,50 valves. I don't remember the exhaust flow. With a Victor JR and a 750 dp and a Crane hydraulic FT cam 228-.480-107 I got 445 hp with 1-5/8 headers. With...

Re: Porting sbc heads?
Have to update this a bit. We are allowed vortecs. Now I must ask this question, purely with the difference being either a 487/993(hump head as well) type head vs vortecs, as comparison first in stock form and then modified specifically for my rules, what would the power difference be for hp/tq betw...

Re: Vortec head?
Is it possible to go to larger valves? Was intending to race with these at a max 6200 rpms. circle track usage. I had considered them for a street project as well if a racing application is not a good fit. I have to add that I can not use aftermarket heads, must be factory stock.... Porting is allow...

cast iron porting burrs?
What type of burrs would you all suggest doing a set of 991 and 993 chevy small block heads? Allowed to port heads for our rules. 4412 holley 1 inch spacer 2701 edelbrock intake(no porting allowed) 383 most likely with vacuum rule(14hg at 900 rpm) 150 cranking compression rule pump gas(may use e-85 ...

Re: Hei timing?
This carb has been gone through and calibrated for racing. It's still visually and gauge legal. New 4.5 power valve, seals, needle and seat. 6 psi constant. Will be on track here soon in the next week or so. I had always used R45ts plugs for years with similar engine specs (difference now being a va...

Re: Hei timing?
Have a set of Accel 8.8 300+ custom wires laying around and was going to change the old ones out with these. Are they a good wire set for an hei and 9.3:1 compression?

Re: Hei timing?
Had bigger jets than I thought. 78. So I went down to the only lower jet I had on hand, 74's. Seems to be a bit stronger, set Timing at 38 @3,000. Still seems to be a small miss but very minute. 5 and 7 wires are separated. Checked wires, only number 2 seems to have damage, changed it but still that...

Re: Hei timing?
Went ahead and bought an Accel 59107C HEI distributor. From what I can tell it has medium type springs(silver) on the mechanical advance. What would be the initial advance be on this type of distributor? I had gotten a msd advance kit but not sure if I will need it or not. It is a 12 volt system, an...
