Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads

Had another TnT on Saturday . Not at my normal track they had a 10K bracket race. So I ventured 108 miles east to London, Ky. Nice track about 700' higher in elevation. temps were cool 48 to 58 degrees F. DA was about the same as the last time I was out at Beech Bend around 1000' to 1100' had a 19mp...

Anyone have had experience a w/ GM 8.1L LPFI engine [propane]

I am toying with the thought of a truck with this engine 8.1L LPFI [propane fuel]for a fairly local [within 250 miles round trip] for hauling 10 to 15k loads. Any thoughts or experience over the usual diesel engine, please share. Thanks Dan

Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads

Or it might just get a better cam, springs, and a Holley strip dominator intake and more converter and have some more play time in the car. I have all that on the shelf in the Garage. Dan

Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads

Op Find the cork in your system and rpm it some more. If it will run 7300 I would have no less than 6500 stall in it. Dave B , I think I know what the cork is it's the heads. The CSA at the pushrod pinch goes into choke at about 6500. The only purpose of this exercise was to see what a set of 441 h...

Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads

Finally got a good Saturday for a TNT the only problem was I screwed up loading the car into the trailer. Poked a hole in the side wall of the right side front tire. Backed the car out, dismounted the tire, put a patch in it, remount test held pressure overnight. Off to the track I go. Make a good ...

Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads

If y'all remember I was having a problem with the valve train not being happy above 6300 rpm. I'm happy to report that I shifted 1-2 at 6500 2-3 at 6400 and crossed the stripe at around 6600 rpm didn't really look at the tach but the 6400 shift lite came on just around the 1000' mark and I just kept...

Re: Question about cams . Low lift vs. high lift

Just a word of warning on cheap heads and springs and other components. Buy Bare heads and use top quality springs, locators, seals, retainers, locks and valves. Too many horror stories of sub pare components on cheap heads. Buyer beware. Dan

Re: Longer valves and valvetrain geometry?

I've started using springs designed for LS heads on my 23* sbc heads. Lots of options available with a 1.800 installed height and wide range of seat and open forces to choose from . Only have to cut seats out to 1.320 and more rocker to retainer clearance.

Re: Lets talk about intake gaskets . . . . .

I don't know about gaskets moving, but I have had a problem of water wicking thru the gasket around the water ports on the last 2 sbc's I've build. Shows up at the top of manifold above the water ports as rust and white aluminum oxidation. One was Felpro 1205's and the other was Mr. Gaskets ultra se...

Just went back and watched the video where he checked the springs. They are about 15 lbs light of force on the seat and 50-60 lbs light open from the spring Crower recommends for that cam.

Re: Crower, Power Level 5.

I take it these are aggressive lobe profiles. Youtuber Golds garage used a 220H226 which I assume is a mid 90s 00256. That would make it a lift rule cam, explains the aggression, Crower lists it power level 5 (titanium valves etc) is there really such a thing as a hydraulic flat tappet that small (...
