Re: Tow Truck Engine

Stay away from the cheap Amazon or ebay link bar roller hydraulics. I bought them and they have very weak springs inside. After a few years one of them stuck completely so after assessing what happened I just gave it a valve lash of .005" and ran the rest of the rockers down off the bottom a 1/...

Re: Quick and dirty grudge.

My antagonist met a grisley end. He got busted street racing and tried running from the cops. With the book thrown at him and both him and the car in jail a future race is extremely unlikely. In addition, without a valid driver's licence he was forced to quit his job. Not the ending to this saga I w...

Re: Narrowing rods?

If the crank has rolled fillets bearing width and rod end chamfer becomes less of an issue than with radiused fillets.

Re: Most aerodynamic Muscle Cars?

How did the Monza'a rate with the 350? I don't know how correct this. Just throwing it out there. http://www.v8monza.com/drawing.htm A pic of my old car is still on that site. I had the engine out of it at the time, hence the slightly nose up attitude. https://monza.homestead.com/files/scottdavison...

Re: Most aerodynamic Muscle Cars?

I had a 1969 455 Toronado. Despite it's size it was pretty slippery. At 125 mph the engine was just starting to pull hard. That was when I realized I didn't really didn't need to know what top speed it was capable of. That car does look pretty slick. 1969-Oldsmobile-Toronado.jpg Always thought a mo...

Re: Please school me about SBC cam selection - auto vs. manual trans

Your flywheel weight will impact drivability as well. A super light aluminum flywheel will make the engine rev insanely fast but will also make "normal" driving a real pain in the arse. You'll need to use a lot of clutch to get moving and you'll suffer from cam lope/driveline whack at low ...

Re: crankshaft grinding tolerances

First off, .... I am new to crank grinding , you might say I am in "Learning Mode". My Storm Vulcan 15 Special . . . what kind of accuracy can I expect from this type of machine, and what are the factors that affect accuracy?? Dave Hi, Dave, First question any crank grinder will ask of a ...

Re: Who here actually drives an EV/HYBRID?

Is there a way to hide/block this subforum and this stupid thread that refuses to die from the main forum list? Why is this even here? It's a valid topic, just not here. It's complicated. Without doubt the most complicated, complex, difficult problem anything in the known universe has ever been fac...

Re: crankshaft grinding tolerances

I ran an old Storm Vulcan, can't remember the model but it had a big steam boat type wheel for bed traverse You'd pull it our for hi or lo speed. Also ran an AMC K2000U. Loved that thing, but the hydraulics could get you in trouble.

How are you measuring your out of round?

Re: LS Valve weight VS spring pressure

Agree, it's just significantly less consequential, than what's on the valve side of the rocker fulcrum The valve spring has a 1.7:1 leverage ratio working for it, against the push rod and lifter... at least in the case of an LS Regardless of rocker ratio It's still inertial mass that needs to be ac...

The poor valve spring has to shove it all back into place after the the lobe strokes. Re...

I still vote for turbocharging what you've got and giving it sexy ferrari noises. Don't tell him what's in it. Well, with the new car he's got me for now, and I have to be somewhat careful as the C3500 needs work before it goes on the road and my wife's transmission went in her car so she's driving...

Re: Quick and dirty grudge.

Well, a hilarious update... I bought some 275 60 15 wider tires and some slicks for the track, got a proper 14x4 air cleaner on it and had it on a diet of straight 93 octane and was dialing in my tune on a back road at the shop. He saw me launch and get down the road a few times, and apparently he d...

$70 will get you a nice beater off Amazon. I use the hell out of mine, but I just saw this one, it has an articulating end which is perfect when you're trying to view the valves. Think I'll get it.
