Re: Overlap, Cam Advance and Idle Quality
I have a cam that can run either hydro or solid lifters. Ive run it both ways. I had a cheap customer buy my cam but not the expensive shim under bucket package . His car made 1 More HP than my car did . with the same peripherals and my tune . The solid lifters idle better and the total off the seat...

Re: Piston spark plug fire slot shape
My guess on the gas ports is that youre getting some oil pull in from the top ring. Does it smoke a tiny bit?
Also , it may run better, faster, if you remove the sharp edges in side the chamber. Maybe cut a gap to open up the plug area .

Dished vs flat top pistons at same CR
I have some room in the rules to deck the block/head for compression . My 1.8 litre 8 Valve VW currently use a small dished piston with a narrow squish band . The Piston tp head is about 042 or so. Loose bore, gapless rings, gas ported top ring. This makes very good power and the car is very fast at...

Re: Golfball Dimples+engine=thinking too much
My favorite data . OPD. Other People's Data. Seems like there is no question that dimples flow better across a surface . water or air>
My question will be, will it go faster on the piston surface ? I think that it might . I can not work the ports or chamber per rules.

Re: Golfball Dimples+engine=thinking too much
I hope that the boundry layer will stay closer to the piston at BDC, thus drawing in a tiny bit more air. AT TDC, maybe the boundry layer will improve the intake and exhaust flow at overlap , drawing in a tiny bit more air . At combustion, maybe the flame front will travel a tiny bit faster, allowin...

Re: Golfball Dimples+engine=thinking too much
Right on. My engineering is pretty good. My cars are not pretty. Lots of hidden technology .Lucky for us the transponder cant tell how the car looks or how it got to the races. Hrs on the dyno.

Re: Golfball Dimples+engine=thinking too much
My rules are 12/1 limit . I am 1802 cc/4 , so 450.5 per hole . plus 40.9cc chamber. Works out to 12.01 . The next engine is at 40.8 chamber . . I will CC a piston top and make some dimples . I can reduce my head size I f i need to get back to size. I like a dished piston chamber as opposed to a head...

Re: Golfball Dimples+engine=thinking too much
Well. Looking all over for data. I cant find anyone that says that it wont work . I need another. .1 of a cc to be legal. So, Im gunna pull the pistons and add dimples to increase the measured chamber size for the next engine . I cant dimple the intake past one in. But the pistons are unrestricted. ...

Re: Golfball Dimples+engine=thinking too much
My thought is that dimpled piston tops may increase the intake charge a tiny bit by keeping the air/boundry layer closer to the piston. If I can get a 2% increase of air intake, that would be useful . I cant find anyone that has used dimples, to say that it does'nt work. The diesel test , by the mak...

Re: Golfball Dimples+engine=thinking too much
Eric Weingarter has a good video of this on YouTube! Check it out!
I looked . found only some intake manifold dimple stuff/.. It seems to work on intakes.

Golf ball dimpled pistons .
It seems as tho they may flow a little bit better .

Re: Cam LSA to move max torque?
Do any of you run the desktop dyno and could try moving the centers? 266@ 050 , 298 off the seat, 108 LSA , 425 valve lift, IVO around 22BTC. This cam runs best at 3-4 degrees advanced and poorly at 2degrees retarded. The TQ is really good and I make competitive power as it is. I just know that 3 mo...

Re: Cam LSA to move max torque?
Thanks. This cam is the 6th edition custom. Limited to .425 lift. About 266 @ 050. Right around 299* OTS. High ramp speed. The off the shelf 110-111 LSA cams are down 5-8 HP to this one. This engine likes the timing events ahead about 3* . Trying it back 2-3* lost power but did move the reduced TQ u...

Cam LSA to move max torque?
I run my dyno a lot for my SCCA cars. My max torque is near 4800 and the car's gear set drops the RPM to only 5200. My current LSA is 108. If I get this cam cut to 104 or 105 , would that move my max torque to 5100?
