Re: BBC roller cams

I would contact Comp, Isky, bullet or cam motion or Mike Jones aka camking who is on this forum as a moderator http://www.jonescams.com/ I would ask them to grind me a hyd roller on a 8660 or 8620 core with cast distributor gear, you want a good core so It can handle the spring pressure needed for a...

Re: BBC roller cams

Building a 496 BBC with a little under 11.00 to 1 comp, ported 781 heads, 2.19 1.88 valves. It'll be mostly street some strip I'd like a cam that'll pull to 6800 or so. I've ran solid rollers on the street but figured I'd better go with a hyd roller. Either way they're dang expensive now. I'll have...

Re: Closed chamber BBC heads

No flow test was done even just on one cylinder? It’s hard to tell from photos how well the needed work was done, but what I can say from reviewing the photos is that at least the work done was not excessive as the guy did not even boat tail the cylinder wall side of the exh valve guide. In short I...

Might be true but this is what I have, to much money invested to change direction now.

Re: Closed chamber BBC heads

Those heads with there stock 2.06” intake valve should flow at least 245 cfm to 250 cfm @.600” lift. This should make you 475 Hp . If your doing the porting work yourself then be sure to look at some of the better detailed porting videos on YouTube that you can find. You should have the intake and ...

Re: Repair a cranksnout

So how about my snout? Is thermal spray weld ok?

Googled it and saw that they use that method to repair big cranks in tanker engines so must not be that bad?

Re: Repair a cranksnout

$1000+ for a new crank?? What are you looking at? Eagle, Molnar, Ohio Crankshaft, all have very reasonably priced cranks. But $150 for repair is pretty good, but sounds low to me. It costs more than that just to get one turned here...... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sca-445410/make/chevrolet+...

Re: Repair a cranksnout

Coloradoracer wrote: Sun Jan 02, 2022 10:16 am Should be fine, but one thing I'd look at is cost. How much for the repair, vs. how much for a replacement aftermarket crank? I'd compare the costs of the two and decide then.
New forged crank+balance is over 1000$
Repair 150$
At least what I was told.

Repair a cranksnout

I have a forged 454 crank and the snout is worn and damaged, local shop said they can fix it very reasonable thermal spray weld and machine to spec.
Is that a good realible repair, shop says so but I have no experience? Any potential problems?
600 hp street 454.
