Re: 430 Lincoln Engines
Thanks for the stories T-85. Keep them coming if you'd like! Yes, paragraphs would be nice but at age 81 your not from the generation that was born with a keyboard in your hands so no harm, no foul. You're not giving us old farts enough credit ... personally, I took typing class in 1966 ... LOL. LO...

Re: Ron Iskenderian has passed away
Wow, he was 75. Ed is still alive and almost 103!!!! Bet he thought he had time like his Dad. Thoughts and prayer for his family. That was my thought as well! I have an uncle in Minnesota that’s still farming and turned 100 this past September. I hope for that longevity too but you never know! God ...

Re: New in box Comp Cams SBC roller,Who's used one!" #950!
I agree with all the above comments. Run it! Comp has gained a good reputation over the years and this cam might be one of the reasons in the early days. The box and decals alone are probably worth what you paid for it just to put on the mantle as conversation pieces. Many times the low buck, spare ...

Re: Sunnen engine honing 1949
Kingbee, there is a picture in the December 1973 Car Craft magazine showing us honing a block with that hone. I dug into my magazine collection and came up with this! Very cool! Don’t mind the Navy insert but when I find magazines in good shape I keep the inserts intact. I tip my hat to you Scotty....

Re: Boxed rods - gone and not fondly remembered
Ed once told me a reground cam for a Briggs & Stratton is the single most profitable item Iskenderian ever sold. The cores cost nothing and watching one of Ed's sons grind those on a shop-built machine which used a bicycle wheel as a speed-reducer, was a real hoot. BTW - Ed is now 101 and anyon...

Re: Boxed rods - gone and not fondly remembered
How about the old timers who welded and then hand filed there cams! Back in the early 70s I found a junked 3hp Briggs and Scrapiron that looked the same as the one in my mini-bike. After reading in one of by big brothers car magazines how performance cams were made I took the cam out of the junked ...

Re: Sunnen engine honing 1949
I still have that exact Sunnen hone set up. My grandfather bought it years ago. They honed model T blocks and used lard instead of any oil. I used it in the 70's to hone the block for my E/MP 1959 Corvette we drag raced with. Cool story! When you you said E/MP Corvette it made me think of the "...

Re: Sunnen engine honing 1949
Since I started out using the Sunnen hone powered by a drill. After a lot of practice and getting good results, moved up to a hone cabinet using the friction feed Sunnen hone with AN stones. That was a small step in a learning curve and eventually got a CK-10. Was about ready to dump the CK and go ...

Re: Not common.
Very cool! What’s the advantage of using two front or rear heads? IIRC, ease of using two carburetors. The stock H-D angles both intake ports toward the center, using a Y-manifold to mount a single carb. Two front or two rear heads will have parallel intake ports, easier to fit two carbs. That make...

Sunnen engine honing 1949
I recently came across some old issues of Motor Service magazine. Cool old ads and nothing was imported. I thought some of you might like this two page Sunnen ad. Accurate to within half a thou!

Re: 402 main bearing caps
I hope you don’t mind me asking. I’ve been told over the years that a 402 is nothing more than a .030 over 396. Is this true? Was the L34 option advertised as a 402 or a 396? Thanks

Re: BB Mopar aftermarket connecting rods?
Somewhat on topic, seems most Mopar stroker crank kits these days come with rod journals finished to BBC diameter and with appropriate length BBC rods. Those of you who do this often, do you choose the less expensive BBC rods or hold out for the larger diameter Mopar rods? Even somewhat less on top...
