Re: Max out of the hole

Connecting rods, crankshafts, wrist pins, and pistons do not stretch but is a certain amount of deflection to be considered? Depending on component weight, and centrifical forces of the RPMs? Or would this deflection be negligible?

Re: Will more efficient heads utilize a bigger carb/throttle body?

Take two engines with same displacement same intake similar or same cams yet two different heads each capable of using the size of engine and cam but one set of heads are highly developed race heads and the other set are ported factory pieces that work very good but might not make as good of power....

Re: Peak power rpm guess?

I'm having trouble with the compression ratio you posted. I have measured several 383 combos with flat top KB pistons and a 64 cc chamber, and they always come out to 10.4: or 10.3:1. How did you achieve these results with an inverted dome? With a 12cc dish I come to 10.3-1 with flat tops it was 10...

https://www.speed-talk.com/l48.jpghttps://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=46946&start=105 This may not be the exact manifold for l-48 but I think it is close. Even with heavy porting it knocked 50 cfm off a modified head! 041's if done right can hit 260 cfm, to me the cam is a ...

Re: Peak power rpm guess?

520#'s out of those parts, really? I'm thinking maybe 100LBS optimistic so more like 410HP/420TQ at 5600RPM That's just 1.09 ft lbs per? 5 years ago before I was acquainted with DV and speedtalk 1 done a 355 with 420 TQ. 465 HP with a 228 cam & 10.5-1 A moderately docile GM crate 383 is rated a...

Re: Peak power rpm guess?

I didn't pay attention to the L48 Intake, considering the choke of that iron intake may hold back some potential also I don't think it will be happy on 87 octane but let it ride with 91-93 octane and a little octane boost on hot days if the engine coolant temps want to get above 190. If all is done...

Re: Cam Data from Well-Developed Engines

I say it's interesting because during a wide open throttle power pull the computer chooses a much tighter LSA for the lobes it's given with the exception of the top of the power curve. As for the chicken vs egg analogy everyone forgets you need a rooster to fertilize the egg. Except LSA is like sta...

Re: Peak power rpm guess?

I come up with your specs are spot on, except I would go for a little more lift and the heads will fall a little short If you haven't done some creative porting I would shoot for 260 CFM at .550 lift I came up with 224/224/ .560 @107 LSA 520 Ft Lbs and 495 Horsepower with 13.8 Idle vacuum I don't th...

Re: Cam Data from Well-Developed Engines

I thought it was rotating the entire cam since it is one piece lol i could be wrong you're incorrect with the ls although at one time I don't remember the name of it but someone in the aftermarket offered a mechanism to do this exact thing on a gen 1 small block it operated off of oil pressure and ...

Re: Cam Data from Well-Developed Engines

Gm vvt on ls motors i thought just changed intake centerline. More advanced at low rpm and may go slightly retarded at high rpm The lift is varied by regulating the oil pressure to the lifter which manipulates event timing by changing the Lash. To change only the center line a mechanism would have ...

Re: Cam Data from Well-Developed Engines

This is what I would expect though isn't that the point of VVT or VTech or whatever the application wood be. Now when it comes to GM with a LS design isn't there VVT more of an illusion instead of being able 2 change timing events they're just shrinking or expanding their event timing by reducing or...
