Re: Head heating required when changing bronze valve guides?

I'm neither materials scientist or machinist ... but my first foray into bronze guides and alum heads was nearly 50 years ago. HD panhead(s). I froze the guides in her kitchen fridge & heated the heads in her kitchen stove. As far as the harley was concerned, my work was great. However, I do NOT rec...

Re: externally balanced 89 Chevy flywheel interchangeability

This is about a block I found which could fit my purpose, however it's a one piece rear seal Gen 1 sbc. So the crank is externally balanced. It also has a flex plate. Would an off the shelf flywheel for a one piece rear seal block work with these or does the crank need to be rebalanced in that case...

Re: Timing chain wear on engines with non-adjustable ignition timing

Travis, I cant answer you exact question but if it helps any my 99 Tahoe is getting ready to turn 280K miles with the engine never having been touched and it still runs basically the same as it did when new. The original plugs rotor cap and wires were not changed until about a year ago and probably...

Re: camshaft specs for 79 Corvette L82

I always thought that cam was likely driven by emissions requirements, as it seems less-than-ideal for a 9:1 engine. Plus, they had the design left over from the original application which was 11:1 CR (and likely a better fit). I'm guessing it was a case of just using what was already in the design...

Re: Low volume oil pump

Any of you run any of the low volume wet sump oil pumps in your stock oil pan and if so does the pressure fluctuate a little at idle about 5 to 10 psi at around 1500 rpm idle speed mine does but a standard volume pump does not I’m thinking it’s just because it has a hard time keeping up up with the...

All good suggestions Unlike too many others' cast/sadi iron rollers, Summit has recently introduced their own house selection of 4 STEEL billet rollers on 112 LSA; all under $250 ... check out Stages 2 or 3 or 4. https://www.summitracing.com/search/product-line/summit-racing-pro-sbc-camshafts/part-t...

Re: Cheap Ebay SBC Retrofit Hydraulic roller lifters

When did "quality" cease to have any meaning? When Congress allowed Xi Jinping to take his name off their products. The companies that sell you "off shore" lifters and more are ALL AMERICAN OWNED.. The China just makes the product to the contracted spec... These are Americans selling you the crap. ...

Re: Cheap Ebay SBC Retrofit Hydraulic roller lifters

Sorry, no I don't. AKAIK, there are no OE V8 motors which use that lifter; only L4 & V6.

At one time, I'd collected a load of used OE (from takeout motors) in a kitty litter box full of old oil.

here's an AERA rebuilder who might help

Re: Cheap Ebay SBC Retrofit Hydraulic roller lifters

Maybe someday, somebody smart will come up with a no drill no machining drop in spider for using OEM hyd roller lifters in old blocks.. And drop in dog bones that do not require lifter boss/block clearancing on older blocks. Apparantly the V6 lifters are taller ... Don't know about LS6 LS3:Lifters....

Re: Late oem style hyd roller cam in a old flat tappet sbc block

if that 305 is a roller block? ... instead of a button, why not use the two-eared OE retainer for step-nose cam? And OE roller lifters as well ? ... they're much less $ than retro-roller Is there a cam button that is the right diameter to fit this late "roller cam block" style cam gear's pilot hole?...

Re: Late oem style hyd roller cam in a old flat tappet sbc block

Would it save you some grief having those lobes measured and ground on the correct cam for the block? It could save unnessessary grief if yes this cam could be measured at .004" .006" .050" and .200" and find another off the shelf hyd roller cam that is close enough (or better). This is nit a uncom...

Re: Do roller tip rockers actually rotate

Regardless if tip rotates a little, a lot or none ... the majority of rockers' friction is in their trunnions ... not tips.
