Re: BB Mopar aftermarket connecting rods?

Somewhat on topic, seems most Mopar stroker crank kits these days come with rod journals finished to BBC diameter and with appropriate length BBC rods. Those of you who do this often, do you choose the less expensive BBC rods or hold out for the larger diameter Mopar rods? Even somewhat less on top...

Re: Ring Pack Thickness: Question

Not to complicate matters anymore than they already are. However if you don’t think you really need a forged crank or forged pistons, and don’t need to run a lot of RPM for an extended length of time you would come out with a lot more power with the same or less money going with a cast 3.75 or 3.8”...

Re: Ring Pack Thickness: Question

Just throwing this out there but would it make any sense to have +.030, in-stock pistons abradable coated and forgo the +.040 deal all together? Looking at the bores and I'd say it's going to take the full .005" per side to clean up. Coatings are great although I'm not sure if this would even be a ...

Re: Ring Pack Thickness: Question

At this stage it's a known that 40 over is in the cards. So know having found a well represented shop to do the work, we're sourcing parts. Pistons are at the top of the list. Availability is proving difficult. The Wiseco piston is the target at this point. Now I'll throw a spanner in the works her...

Re: Ring Pack Thickness: Question

"There is no reason to even use a 1/16 ring any more. It’s a waste of power." It has always been my understanding the thin rings don't last as long. The auto manufacturers started using them when the fuel injection allowed them to make the rings last longer. The ultra-thin rings and pistons cost mo...

Re: Ring Pack Thickness: Question

Now, if thin rings allow the rotating assembly to spin like this, I'm all in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aYJxjp0src But, I believe that's a Super Stock engine by Patterson. Certainly more to it than the ring pack. Like $45000 more. That said, were talking 1/64" in the difference. It counts fo...

Re: What do these plugs say?

Look close and look for any little signs of detonation. I can’t see any but it’s just a picture. Those plugs look rich on pump gas to me. If you have more than 3 thread of heat in the shell the plug is too hot. How much compression are you running. BTW, the A/F meter can and will lie to you. If you ...

Re: ICON 9929 Piston Specs

If all you can get is a 1/16-1/16-3/16 ring pack I’d look for a different piston. There is no reason to run those big, heavy, clunky ring packs. I’d spend more money on pistons and rings and skip the 4 corner cooling. Rings reduce friction and save power. The 4 corner cooling is a fool’s errand.

Re: Cam design basics ?

That's exactly what we did with the classes that were restricted to 9-9.5:1 compression. there were a lot of restricted compression classes in the late 80's, Modifieds, Asphalt Latemodels, Winston West stock cars, and others. Besides the compression limit, these were engines that had been well deve...

Re: Cam design basics ?

Bringing this one back from the dead. I heard Mark Cronquist of JGR mention today about closing the intake valve "early"* on restrictor engines / limited compression engines to build cylinder pressure, but he has learned with the less rules JGR Baja truck engines that you can close it too early. I ...

Re: PCV vs EVAC

You can use both Chad. Even if it’s a drag car. The PCV does the bulk of the work when you are at idle and cruise back up the return road and in the pits. At WOT the Evac’s do the work. Even at cruise (any high manifold vacuum situation) both the PCV and the Evac’s pull crankcase depression. I sugge...

Re: 440 motorhome build- 30 degree intake seat?

There you are! I was waiting for you once again to make your no merit comment disparaging 30 degree seats! I and many others ( by means of iron heads no less ) have produced well over 650 hp while running 30 degree intake seats , so I hope you don’t mind that myself and others continue to do so whe...
