Re: Lube for valve stems?

I use Torco assembly lube. I haven’t assembled an engine with oil since the early 1990’s.

Re: Anyone know of a source of springs for distributors

 Hello all, Since retiring I have been using my distributor Syncrograph to do marine distributors. The one of importance these days if for the VORTEC SBC based engines. These engines have a completely different curve than a conventional SBC. Another application is the 8.1L Mercruiser. These...

When I worked at Mallory back in the 80's, I sort of remember most or all coming from Century Spring.

I would love to pick your brain about your time at Mallory. That would be amazing.

Re: Cranking compression results are in

You will never maintain 170 deg F water temp on a street driven car that you actually drive. Reality. You sure about that? I live in a high desert valley. In the summer we are over a hundred degrees a lot. I run my engine at 160. I can run it cooler than that but the defrost becomes ineffective and...

Meanwhile, back on topic… Back on topic...I run 12:1 on pump gas with iron heads. A ll things claimed to be wrong. There is a process to follow doing higher than "orthodox" compression ratios on pump gas. You absolutely MUST use a timing CURVE. You also need to control coolant temps. I kn...

QUOTE: "Under load would be DIFFERENT" No shit, Sherlock. You're a real piece of work. Read closer. He said he could do that with over 17:1 and not have it rattle. No one with the IQ of a fruit loop would build a pump gas engine like that. You can do it but you can't get to WOT. Like I po...

Re: Sanity Check On My Build

I have a 67 mustang that I’ve been restoring forever that I need a sanity check on, hoping you engine masters can guide me on an induction for my engine build. I’ve had this car since high school and it’s seen many iterations but needed a deep dive resto that’s taken a long time because I had a fam...

Re: HEI pulling timing. Any solutions?

I wouldn't say the emphasis is emissions reduction for the applications we're discussing, rather an improvement in overall efficiency, and a better running engine. But yeah, the price of admission and the learning curve are definitely considerations. Just seems like a car seeing any amount of stree...

Re: valve timing events??

The exhaust valve isn’t stopping the flow, rising cylinder pressure does. If you do it right, at peak power, the the port flow is nearly stopped by the time the exhaust valve closes. The port is already beginning to slow down before BDC. To quote the late MadBill from like 15-18 years ago, “if gass...

Re: HEI pulling timing. Any solutions?

Thecurve does not retard when proper GM advance weights and center is used.GM designed in compensation for this with the OEM HEI diz Bullshit. Since they don’t all retard the same amount and the same RPM you are wrong. Without putting the distributor on a machine just like it is the car you have no...
