I just got what I think was a pretty good deal on a 4.495 bore bowtie block from Fast Times in Chicago.

It is new in crate from GM, only issue for most people is that it is a tall deck.

Low production volume in obscure applications...it will be a dud, just like the 8.1 GM is a dud. why would any serious ford guy try to build one of these when you can build a big inch 385 series with lots of aftermarket support for far less money? Wonder if a big block ford has a better chance of holding up You must be a mind reader... After so many negative responses about trying to hit the number with a big block chevy, I was actually starting to look at 521-557 ford based engines.. seems strange that the Ford version would be a cheaper op...

So you think it would be better to start with a 6.0 ? That seems a bit strange, I really thought the the extra 2 liters of displacement would make it easier to reach the goal... Interesting idea.

Yes, that engine has cast pistons, stock rods, and was only running 12 psi.
