Re: Are the factory refurbished Holley carbs worth getting?
Buying electronics, I’ve always bought refurbs direct from the manufacturer. Usually you end up with something that is very low use, and has been gone through better than from the factory floor for much cheaper. Depending on how Holley does the refurbs (in house?), it may be the same. I've bought s...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
Not to get off in left field here, but I recently picked this one up for $50.00. if any of you guys want it, just 50 plus actual shipping costs.
It was so cheap I couldn't leave it. If someone is wanting to cut one up and modify that's about as cheap as they get.

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
Probably a lot of other variables to consider, quench, pumping losses, ring pack drag. Reciprocating assembly weight, just to name a few. Jim & Holdener's article are not saying anything about where they installed the cam. Retarded/advanced could also be a factor. Just speculation on my part. No...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
Think you just said it. Plenum volume and smooth entry into each runner is a big factor. Could explain why the 350/355 stuff revs out higher HP peaks than the 383 tpi stuff does. He got it to peak higher with not much difference in runner lengths, just more cross section, smoothed out flow in the ba...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
I'd love to see a purpose built pump gas 427-434 sbc with at least an afr 210, or equivalent and a heavily worked over first tpi, Siamese the runners to make peak tq around 4500, and the runner lengths worked out so it carried peak HP from 5500-6000. It would make for a nice truck engine, or c4/fbod...

Re: L92 600 Crank HP
Exactly Bill Ls l92 is barely 400 hp from factory. It takes serious changes to make 500 hp. 600 takes some serious changes!!! We worked hard on low tension ,thinner ring package. We worked windage area hard. Those heads flow decent air if you work with above 6500 rpm. You want to make better averag...

Re: L92 600 Crank HP
Those intakes have horrible distribution and runner sizing and taper. You will need someone that really understands intake manifold porting if you want to get it straightened out. Your 4 corner runners will look waaaayyyyy different than 4 center. If you don't get after your setup I'm going to say ...

Re: Anyone know what size this is?
5/16" key stock, find a socket that fits it. Hear the plug with a map gas torch until a dull red glow, drip water on it to quench it. Usually come right out. If the head has a lot of internal corrosion may want to run a tap through the head before you shove anything back in.

Re: Solidft to solid roller
Take a look at Mike Jones lobes. Him, others of his caliber can custom tailer lobes, lift, duration for the power you want. As mild as your current cam is you can probably get away with a hydraulic roller, have more area under the curve and make more power everywhere. If your heads will allow the ad...

Re: Speedmaster block Quality in 2023
Recently picked up a set of their serpentine pulleys for a sbc swp application. Nice fit and finish, half the price of March & others. Their crank trigger kits are good too, just don't trust the sensors. But for $150, when msd charges $400+ for the same thing still a decent purchase. Laid a new ...

I know I may be opening a can of worms over here....but I need some help with this. So here it is....I am putting a 383 together, street car, fun weekend warrior Compression is around 10.5 to 1. Heads are GMPP Fastburn Vortec aluminum heads with 2" intake and 1.55" exhaust valves. Based o...

Re: Most aerodynamic Muscle Cars?
Be nice if one of the major east/west and a north/south interstate was built like the Autobahn. We have the largest amount of car owners, and the largest car culture per capita bar none in the states, yet we are stuck with 65-70 mph posted speeds through most of the country. Hardly seems right. inst...

Re: Please school me about SBC cam selection - auto vs. manual trans
Kind of a complicated question with many variables. To be vague on the street I find manuals to be more forgiving of having bigger cams and other ill tuning. I personally do not like entry level priced real loose converters in a street car. But I also don't like breaking parts when trying to 60 foo...

Re: DIY Intake Oil Splash Shield
I noticed that my intake has two threaded holes that were used for attaching to a jig to machine the intake. They're just PERFECTLY located such that I could pretty easily use them to mount an oil splash shield on the bottom. What materials are appropriate for an oil splash shield? -Can Aluminum be...
