Re: Resonator placement
Dynomax super turbo 3" mufflers are very good quality and do not choke down to less than 3" inside. About $125 each.

Re: Another reason not to buy Speedmaster shit
I just checked on Summit, where Jay bought the one he used for the video. Looks like they pulled them. You woulda thought someone at summit wouldve looked at what they were selling, but i guess not. Yes, they replied immediately on his You Tube video with an apology and stated they were pulling the...

Re: Sbc shaft rocker arms, how much side to side play is normal?
Bill Chase I did quick inet look and Scorpion has a tech line. It might be worth giving them a shout and get their opinion. I would think they should be close to the .0025 -.0035 each way I'm seeing with T&D stuff I have here. Tried that, all they could tell me is make sure each roller is not h...

Re: Another reason not to buy Speedmaster shit
If they can make a profit off it.. probably not. Summit and jegs original founders are long gone, replaced with corporate investment groups at the helm. Safe to say integrity takes a back seat to quarterly profits. It's not just them, it's everything everywhere now days. Why run a company you love a...

Re: Sbc shaft rocker arms, how much side to side play is normal?
Thanks, it gives me something to try at least. The side to side was at 165-170 ° fahrenheit after a long drive.
Maybe take half of the end play out on the intakes, and a quarter of it on the exhausts?? What's a good starting point Dave B?

Excellent. Thanks If you want one to cut up, measure cross section etc. I'll donate it to the cause, just pay shipping. I posted pics of it in the other tpi thread here. Paid $50 for it, in the name of science and all we can learn from your work.. gimme an address, you can mail me the shipping cost...

Take a look here... https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30094 And here... https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/601284-tpi-long-tube-runner.html Pretty sure everything he did was to take advantage of the 2nd harmonic. Camking did the cam for it. Most of the work he did was aimed at gettin...

Re: Another reason not to buy Speedmaster shit
Saw his video last night. That makes it very difficult to justify buying any of their products, regardless of price or quality. I retract my previous statements about some of their stuff. Actually used the Broader Performance logo on their copy of his parts and sold them through summit/jegs. Low dow...

Re: When does custom porting become beneficial?
You said your replacing the lower intake so I would modify it to fit vortec heads, give them a little love and you have met your goal. Local acquaintance used OEM 062 vortec heads, scoggins dickey vortec tpi base, stock l98 Vette short block stock stock stock. With nothing more than a simple 3 angle...

Re: Are the factory refurbished Holley carbs worth getting?
Buying electronics, I’ve always bought refurbs direct from the manufacturer. Usually you end up with something that is very low use, and has been gone through better than from the factory floor for much cheaper. Depending on how Holley does the refurbs (in house?), it may be the same. I've bought s...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
Not to get off in left field here, but I recently picked this one up for $50.00. if any of you guys want it, just 50 plus actual shipping costs.
It was so cheap I couldn't leave it. If someone is wanting to cut one up and modify that's about as cheap as they get.

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
Probably a lot of other variables to consider, quench, pumping losses, ring pack drag. Reciprocating assembly weight, just to name a few. Jim & Holdener's article are not saying anything about where they installed the cam. Retarded/advanced could also be a factor. Just speculation on my part. No...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
Think you just said it. Plenum volume and smooth entry into each runner is a big factor. Could explain why the 350/355 stuff revs out higher HP peaks than the 383 tpi stuff does. He got it to peak higher with not much difference in runner lengths, just more cross section, smoothed out flow in the ba...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
I'd love to see a purpose built pump gas 427-434 sbc with at least an afr 210, or equivalent and a heavily worked over first tpi, Siamese the runners to make peak tq around 4500, and the runner lengths worked out so it carried peak HP from 5500-6000. It would make for a nice truck engine, or c4/fbod...
