Big ports don't need big cams. DV showed us nothing again.

Re: E85 Advice
Is US pump e85 actually e *up to* 85? Changing by season and location? I don't know how a carb would deal with that variability in fuel. In a pinch while leaving a popular cruising spot   I stopped at a gas station to fill up because it was the only one close enough with e85. 5 gallon f...

Re: tunnel ram carb talk
You would gain with 850s but not for money spent. You would Def be happy with a pair of doms and see better improvement. I went through same thing with 900 plus hp sbc. Braswell told me when I went from 865 hp to the 935 setup that his 850s would still do the job. I ran it 3 times, about 7 passes. ...

Edelbrock Super Victor 2970, ported at Chopper Air Port. This one is for 400+ cubic inches, running a set of AFR 220s (2.5 sq. in. MCSA, ported by Weingartner), pushing 8000 RPM with 450-500 HP of nitrous... IMG_9610.JPG IMG_9635.JPG IMG_9690.JPG IMG_9691.JPG IMG_9694.JPG IMG_9695.JPG IMG_9702.JPG ...

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane
To get a better understanding of this situation with stick shift and maybe help the OP. Engine is not yet assembled. What is the better choice in this situation: Leave compression as is and choose camshaft IVC that will help prevent combustion issues but likely shift torque curve up in rpm but make...

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane
Does this use the formula: Static compression ratio + cylinder head material = fuel octane rating? No formula.. 45 years experience. With your experience if he changed to aluminum heads what would the Octane requirements be then? Just ignore him.. his experience is 45 years of regurgitated hearsay.

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane
IMG_0410.jpeg These are the n351 heads on a 4.100 stroke Windsor. I bought the heads used and never poured the chambers until recently, after I invested in the offset shaft rockers and custom header etc. They were supposed to be 64cc but apparently they got cleaned up a little too much. :? I would ...

Especially with that hot under hood air temps Arizona brings.KnightEngines wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 9:20 pm Ouch, manual trans, I probably would want comp closer to 11;1.

Well.. disregard the dynamic compression.. whats important is vehicle weight, gearing, tire size, converter speed. Altitude climate etc.

Re: Rod bearing clearance
Hiya Dave, The rods do stretch, my old school blown 11,000 rpm BBC had ~.090" piston to head and you could barely see the very minimal contact. A lot better Alum rods out there now(this was in '94) They do shrink from work hardening. I can't advise on clearances for that stroker as I've not do...

Re: Rod bearing clearance
Actually, with that probable 5.300" stroke, I would run minimum .040" rod side clearance and guide the rods side movement within the piston; (piston guided rods); similar to a 2-stroke. What diameter is the rod journal on that crank ? nominal is 2.200 When running at about 7,000 RPM, a go...

Re: Mystery sludge
Probably just soot combined with moly.. E85 is a hell of a detergent, the insides of those engine generally are cleaner from being steam cleaned. I see that on all the E85 stuff I do. Never really concerned me. I've used cheap bulk no name oil in some of them and more expensive lat, redline, gibbs et...
