Re: Who regrinds the lifter face crown on used lifters

Ford, in the '50's, '60's & '70's, used a 37" radius on the 7/8" lifter. I don't know (because I don't have the drawings) what they used on the FH 1" or the 1" mushrooms, that came before that. I also, don't know the angle that Ford ground the lobe angle to. It should be diameter/radius/lobe angle r...

Re: Solid roller lifters on hydraulic roller cams

There must be a little more to it.

Both Blair Patrick (1st place) and Geoff Mummert (2nd place) ran a hyd cam with solid rollers, in the last EMC.

I don't understand it but, maybe it has to do with matching valve flow % to cam duration? I don't know but, there must have been a reason.

I would still like to know how maxracesoftware, calculates the CD and tire growth.

Re: 2.56 Gear, Stock Converter, 4100 Pounds, NA 11s?

I did a couple of quick calculations, using peak torque rpm (4300) and 27.4" tire (225/70/15) and w/o tire growth it comes out to 136.92 mph but, with 7.2% tire growth, it gives me the 146.76 mph. It seems reasonable that it wouldn't over come drag, after peak torque. If it could rev to 6k w/o addit...

Re: 2-stroke small engine upgrade

Castor bean oil, is like perfume to old motor heads. I attend the 1959 Times Gran Prix (Riverside), with my dad, that time many Euro race cars used it as a top oil, in the gas and I was hooked. I ran a 400 Maico MX bike, in the early '70's and used Castrol R (20/1), I loved the smell but, it would f...

Re: Oil Aeration with dry sump

As Bill says, only a air leak, on the suction side of the pressure stage, will cause a problem, on the pump, itself but, also check the hose from the tank to the suction side of the pressure pump. I once lost a engine, because something got in the fitting, on the sealing area of the AN taper. If the...

Re: Camshaft lobe designers

One more cam designer that I'm curious about, is Chet Herbert. In the '60's, in SoCal, he was very prominent and ran dragsters out of his small shop. I lived only about 2 miles from his Anaheim shop. By best friend and his older brother (GM guy's) got me to get a roller cam for my 427 Ford. He hadn'...

Re: Camshaft lobe designers

Ben Herheim is a really great guy, he did a few cams for me. I was going to have him do another, a few months ago and he was gone. I wish I could get a hold of him again. One name I don't see listed is John Delong. I sponsored a open comp car, in the '80's, that used his gear drive SBC cams. He also...

Each guy you hire, makes you even more profit, right? If you have 20k sq ft, you dam sure, better have the employees to handle the work and when you are stretched thin, on your time, what do you do, turn on the customer or hire a general manager? You need to cover the additional employee's salary +...

Where did you take it? I live in Oregon.
Quality Machine (QMC) in Medford, OR.

He then took it to a local guy that builds Sprint Car engines, to be tested.
