Re: Ford announce plans to return to F1 from the 2026 season
Schurkey, You must really have a lot of distain for GM, who have never built a Indy or F1 engine but try to take the glory by badging engines that others designed and built. Ford designed and built it's Indy engine, from scratch, based on it's new (1 year old) SBF, of the time. Ford partnered with C...

Re: Ford announce plans to return to F1 from the 2026 season
Ford's racing philosophy: "Just throw money at it". Not really. If you research the Indy and GT40 programs, you'll find that they did ALL the Indy engine work and most everything in the GT40. Shelby was a key to it also. The Indy engine came directly from the 260 SBF (initial testing) then in 6 mon...

Re: Ford announce plans to return to F1 from the 2026 season
What would Ford hope to gain from F1? Publicity, I guess. They're not going to learn anything about engine or chassis design that would translate to production vehicles. And while Ford could write a check, Ford couldn't engineer the engine or the chassis back in the '60s, they sure as heck can't do...

Re: 347 Street Cam
So, if yours is a TBI, EFI, why not go to the Edel Air Gap? It should help, a lot. Victors and S Victors, are not noted for their street manors.
If not enough, then the street 230 cam but, I would add, at least 4° to the Ex duration.

Re: Head Porting for Fuel Milage
The 2.8, Cologne (Germany) engine, has no similarities to the 4.0, which is a up grade of Fords first American "Metric" engine, the 3.8.

Re: Cast Iron Ring Mods
Sort of like a Napier ring but without the taper face? Would you narrow it (cut it) on the upper or lower side? https://www.highpowermedia.com/Archive/the-napier-ring Yes, that's it, exactly. Would cut the bottom side with a .015 radius, since there will only be ~.020 per side clearance to work wit...

Re: Cast Iron Ring Mods
Yes, but you want to use a surface wet grinder with a magnetic table so they are dead flat. Hit up a tool and die shop. I'm not sure what your saying. I have a machine shop and was a sub-contractor for the aircraft industry for many years. It would still be flat and would be cut, captured in a rece...

Cast Iron Ring Mods
I have several sets of older FE & SBF pistons w/rings, that have ring grooves for either .078 x 2 or .078 x .093. I was thinking that I could face them in a fixture with a bore size recess and center clamp and face them to .040 or .060. It would take a little tension off of them, too. Anyone done an...

Re: Mating Two V8's, ( Freight Train) vs. Harmonics
Chet Herbert ran his tandem, 215 Olds rail, with the engines coupled front to front. Reverse rotation on the front engine, of course. I saw the car in his shop, in the '60's but, I don't know if they were phased but, my guess is that he coupled them, based on the key position. This picture was taken...

Re: Willys F134
I had a Jeep F150, with this engine in it. If it over heated very much, it would blow a head gasket.
I had it from '76, until about '80 and blew 3 or 4 head gaskets. The last one was do to the generator bracket loosening, on the fwy.

Re: Making Aluminum Y Block heads
I too, would like to see a resurrection of the Linc Y-Block. There was a VERY fast one, in a 56 Ford, in the early '60's, that I admired and never forgot. But, there is just no support for it. New replacement parts are extremely hard to find and I don't think you can get a cam blank for it, at all. ...

n2omike and 289nate,
I have to ask, what is your actual rear gear, what diameter tire are you using and what is your trap speed?
