Re: No power out of ideas

Update, Boat runs good and starts fine but hits a wall at 4800rpm I locked out the distributor and timed it at 36. It sounds so much better at idle and runs pretty good. I will only use locked out distributor from here on out as I don't build anything stock. Thanks to everyone that suggested that it...

Re: No power out of ideas

The boat ran fine with no issues on a rebuild of my jet with upgraded parts. Running an A impellar Batteries are brand new Costco marine I agree with everyone it needs more timing. I have always had locked out distributors. I do have the part to lock this one out. I have bypassed the oil separator. ...

Re: No power out of ideas

I thought about the log exhaust as well but I have seen many blown engines with them. It lays over from the time you put a load on it. You would think it would start to lay over when you were getting more rpm? But yes it could be an issue. I am running the same cam I have always had in the 555. I ha...

Re: No power out of ideas

The pistons are Icon with the skirt coating. I will pull some pistons and recheck clearance. It does not have a heat exchanger. Only preheat is through the log exhaust so it is not lake temperature. I checked the jet and nothing clogging it. I can turn the shaft by hand. I was hoping it would be tha...

No power out of ideas

Sorry long post So I have a pretty stout 555 bbc. I had this engine in my 30 ft offshore boat and the motor pushed it to over 60mph in lake Tahoe (6200 elevation). When I sold it I kept the motor to put in my jet boat. I bought a new dart block because my old one had a crack. I used all the parts fr...

Popping sound from valvetrain

I had a cracked Bowtie BBC block so I bought a new Dart block. Used all of my old parts except for new rings. I had no issues with valve train when I dissembled the motor. I heard the pop when I was adjusting the valves. I am turning it over by hand as it is on a stand. I have moved the lifter of a ...

Re: Milking the oil

I think I found my issue. I have 2 sleeves not 3. I see what looks like a crack in each of the sleeves at the bottom https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/fmumDepiG2JFxcLWOkbkMrgA6pvAOJK6SRYonvB3s7r7FkK-ChTFRhBVjq50HwArCeRRZq8934jaueRsbzmHlwYER-zIHU6Umlt6lTmvUjJapWMOt70aURga0Z9Og56VfxGMnnwyDoDqswLZXaMkN...

Re: Milking the oil

Thanks for the replies. The pressure from the offshore boat was around 3 at idle and around 6-12 when moving. The jet boat has around 6 when running at speed. All head bolt holes are blind on my block, and most aftermarket blocks. There is no thermostat in either of the boats. I will have the block ...

Milking the oil

New to the forum I have a 555 BBC (bowtie studded block) that was in a boat that started milking the oil after I had 3 sleeves replaced. This is in an offshore boat that only was in Lake Tahoe (very cold water). The motor was fine for about 2-3 trips. When it first happened I drained around 8 gallon...
