Re: SwitchFire X pipe

Is this what they're using to make them sound so terrible? I swear every 5.0 in town has no mufflers and screeches like like a dying rabbit.

Re: Accidentally bought an Esslinger 2.3 sohc race motor...yikes!

I've been running E-85 for the last year in my SBC powered Olds. >13.5:1 compression, aluminum heads and a custom carb. So far it's been great, car seems to like about 39* of timing best but I've settled in on 38* (doesn't really apply to your engine, but throwing it out there). I just drained the f...

Re: 8 deg F = over .100 second? What happened here?

Thanks for the data! Car is a 1973 Olds Omega (X body like a Nova) 3530 lbs with driver 1.76 powerglide with trans brake 4.56 rear gear, 29" tire I think you got the other lane on my second to last pass, Sunday morning where the car really picked up. I lifted at the 1000' mark pretty hard throw...

Re: 8 deg F = over .100 second? What happened here?

Thank you for the link. I think I'll end up using that a lot. The app I use on my phone "Drag Racing Weather" can be a bit finicky to get the data to refresh. I really need to burn a race to get the car dialed in. Do you a lack of or too much timing could factor into this as well? I think ...

Re: 8 deg F = over .100 second? What happened here?

Atmospheric conditions changed considerably between Saturday and Sunday morning. The wind direction and speed changed unfavorably but it didn't seem to affect your car negatively. Correction factors: 8/21/2022: 9:47 -- 1.062 10:15 - 1.063 12:22 - 1.068 8/22/2022: 8:45 -- 1.054 dumped 7mph and .05-....

8 deg F = over .100 second? What happened here?

I race the ANRA series at Famoso Raceway in central CA. Saturday temps were from 90* - 100* with about a 3200' DA and between 12-20% RH. My three time passes had .002 second difference. Sunday morning it was 83* at about 2600' DA with 25% RH (eliminations start at 8, time runs started at 9) and the ...

Re: 9.5:1 SCR 434 potential

Why not lower the CR on the 383 to run pump gas. Then you will (soon) have 2 short blocks to play with the supercharged power. Run the low CR 383 on a single Torque Storm . Which you can upgrade to a Dual Torque Storm setup, later, use it on both the now boost friendly 383 and the 434 too. We've go...

Re: 9.5:1 SCR 434 potential

I was thinking the compression ratio would kill it. Thanks AF2, it runs pretty good for a NA SBC, has a jones solid roller, the aforementioned top end, scat forged crank, cunningham rods, and custom racetec pistons. Powerglide with a brake and a ATI treemaster 8" converter. Honestly it wouldn't...

9.5:1 SCR 434 potential

Humor me a bit here, I'm wondering if I can make as much or more power in a 9.5:1 compression 434 than I'm currently making on my >13.5:1 383 with the same top end. This stems from wanting to build a roots blown SBC that's pushing close to 1000hp in the future on E85. But that's going to take a whil...

Re: Ethanol vs Methanol, why both?

I've only been running E85 for this season but so far no corrosion issues to speak of. We've had the bowls off the car a few times changing jets and only minimal white chalky stuff, That white chalky stuff is corrosion. But like I said, I've seen much worse on my dirt bike with pump premium 10% eth...

Re: Ethanol vs Methanol, why both?

Last weekend racing in 90+ deg weather our car only lost about 3-5 hundredths running E85 while most of our friends running race gas were about 15-20 hundredths down from the cooler weather. We had no heating issues all weekend, engine temps were never higher that 175F max at the end of the track. I...

Re: 383 Build input request (E85)

FWIW I haven't contacted Pro Systems for input post this past race. I figured I'd send them a link to the video and get their take as well but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Patrick gave me some advice after the first test session, they've been really good to work with so far. I like to learn th...

Re: 383 Build input request (E85)

Dave, You do great videos :D Just a couple of questions Do you buy E85 from the pump? Do you test it? I see you are using AFR it might be better to work of lambda . Lambda 1.000 is approx AFR of 9.8 ish for E85. Lambda 0.8 (20 % richer) is AFR of approx 7.8. You may have your conversion worked out ...

I've been using "Drag Racing Weather" for android. It's OK, but not great. Sometimes it fails to update the weather data.

Re: 383 Build input request (E85)

Went back to the track this weekend. Went up 4 jets in the secondaries and 2 in the primaries. Tighted the rear shocks 2 clicks on comp/ rebound and softened the front 1 click on rebound and 2 on comp. Car picked up .050 off the trailer, I short shifted the second pass but it was a better 60' than ...
