Re: What's a good CDI box value these days?

4L60 should come with TCM, did vehicle have a 60? Or a 700? Just another deal to work out if 700 was original trans. with check engine light.

Re: What's a good CDI box value these days?

What is your engine exactly ? TPI ( port injection) or single TBI, ( throttle body). ' 89 , 454 trucks used sm. cap dist with 369 module, if you want c.o.p. ignition, MSD offers a kit for about $1400. But it is MSD, they have had some quality problems lately. Are you running a dedicated TCM for the ...

I think he was referring to total advance ? Is there excessive smoke out the exhaust when free revving? Is the engine a crate deal , or if not , what are ring end gaps, and are they correct for piston type, when doing the leak down test, keep plugs in order and check for oil deposit on them. Or just...

OBD1 ECM , may have codes for failed O2 sensors or coolant temperature sensor driving injector pulse too long, what is data stream info with good scan tool? If plugs are correct type, a weak coil , defective fuel pressure regulator in TBI unit, ck. fuel pump pressure, map sensor ,( trouble code) , m...

Re: Is this flywheel reusable?

Racing application, have your local trusted race engine shop grind( with a flywheel grinder) take maybe .015" off, mag it , to make sure it doesn't have any didn't see those cracks . New one might be $400. ,even with blow shield , what are your feet worth? Even if a good shop isn't close it's worth ...

Re: Hydraulic roller lifters tick only under crankcase vacuum

What type of oil are you using? Some type of break-in formula, or a straight synthetic race oil? If a 10-40 wt. Maybe trying 5-30 , or vise versa , a different brand may have an additive formula that may help as this would be a quick thing to cross off your list.

Re: what typically goes on 5.3 first

Cam and lifter wear will usually set a cylinder miss code, Is the orange ck. engine light on? LS engines are very sensitive to valve wear, ECM wise , a good scan tool will pin point the affected cylinder (s).

Re: 350 Late model stock car racing engine, oil temps high with great water temps, any help?

What oil weight are you using? We ran a Jag 6 cyl. in vintage racing a dozen years ago with 20w -50 @ 275 + temp. , switched over to 10w-30 and oil temp dropped 10-15 degrees depending on track temp. Both syn amsoil, better flow carried heat away from high load areas, bearings and valve train faster?...

Re: How to jet the carb 4150

Boot is right about a regulator, looks like a Q45, running fuel pressure is 40 psi, dead heads at 70. ECM controls timing, spark , probably looking for injector pulse feed back , not to mention a tps signal, wonder how many codes are set. This will take a bit of sorting as the Brits say. Are you run...

Worn shaft is a problem for points distributor, with pick-up coil, worn shaft could damage the coil, have you replaced cracked distributor cap?

Re: Strange Weber IDF problem - loss of main circuit?

Another thought, earlier in your post you stated the AFR went 15-16, and had 4 psi on gage. If the ignition turns out to be a dead end, you need to do a volume test for fuel flow, a collapsed fuel pick up filter or "sock" in the tank might be a possibility, psi could be o.k., but volume maybe off, p...

Re: Strange Weber IDF problem - loss of main circuit?

The pickup coil wires can crack under the insulation where they enter coil body, attach the ohm meter to pickup and apply vacuum to advance unit with small hand pump tester( mighty-vac) and watch reading, no vacuum hand pump? Move wires with tip of pocket screw driver. If ohm meter suddenly shows op...

Re: Strange Weber IDF problem - loss of main circuit?

Aside from the float drop and #4 idle circuit problems, I would suggest you look carefully at the distributor pick-up coil, 700-800 ohms ,ck. it hot, is the insulation frayed ? The capacitor is critical with points, on your car it may only be for radio static, disconnect it and see what happens, if ...
