Re: HEI setting timing on a non running engine

Just make sure you are on the compression stroke and not the exh. stroke, before you drop distributor in , watch your #1 valve train action, intake closing, and you will have to use a long straight slot screw driver to adjust oil pump drive slot a bit to engage distributor tang to get it in the corr...

Re: Engine Diagnosis

Good voltage and a coil swap done, if it has 4 pin module, get another, maybe a napa TP45, check pick-up coil resistance hot, about 800 ohms, if memory serves, the old rule about carb problems turn out to be ignition may apply here.

Re: Sodium Silicate ( AKA ) Water Glass / Liquid Glass

Pull the plugs, do some diagnostic work, which bank or both are affected? Do a leak down test, before you spend time mixing up the gunk to cure a problem that may be a waste of time, and perhaps your schedule for the engine swap has been moved up a bit.

Re: titanium rods

Fabr - that's a good point, how he thought that the distance between the 2 surfaces would affect volume of oil slung up the cylinder wall would be a good question, if he was still around on Circle Track. I would write him a letter.

Re: titanium rods

One more note , these engines were for restoration, most converted to full floating small ends, oil pressure aside , side clearance also has affects on pin pressure against lock rings, so a number of factors have to considered during the build.

Re: titanium rods

Reviewing Yunick's Power Secrets, his main concern about excessive side clearance was oil slinging onto cylinder walls, overcoming the rings ability to maintain oil control, and this was back when side clearance was thought critical to oil pressure. I have done several BBC stock engines with correct...

Re: Double intake gaskets

Have had to use double gaskets many times, not only intakes, water pumps, coolant manifolds, etc. Where surfaces had to be machined due to pitting or warping and component alignment was a problem, right stuff silicone works well, also on Elring gaskets, can be very thin, we used Gorilla Glue with a ...

If you want to go the boosted route, check out what Ryan Falconer did many years ago with Chevy V-6, I am sure there are others more current, but the power is impressive. Looking at the turbo deal makes me think about building one.

Re: What's a good CDI box value these days?

What is your engine exactly ? TPI ( port injection) or single TBI, ( throttle body). ' 89 , 454 trucks used sm. cap dist with 369 module, if you want c.o.p. ignition, MSD offers a kit for about $1400. But it is MSD, they have had some quality problems lately. Are you running a dedicated TCM for the ...
