Re: Resonator placement
Thank y’all for all the input. I went ahead and just took it to an exhaust shop I’ve used a few times. They do good work at a good price. It’s no mandrel bent exhaust but it turned out great. I trust the guy and let him make some recommendations. He suggested the same as y’all. Dyno max turbo muffle...

Re: Resonator placement
Well I was honestly thinking of that as well, but I’m worried that the drone is just a characteristic of the engine. It happens at a very specific rpm range

Resonator placement
I have an s10 with a small block/weiand 144 combo, shorty headers with “true duals” dumped out before the rear axle. Mufflers are some flowmasters. The truck sounds good, not super loud, but the drone is absolutely unbearable. I’m looking to add a couple of resonators to the exhaust to help. Trouble...

Cold start surging 350 with Weiand 144
I have a small cam, aluminum headed 350 with a Weiand 144 on it. Runs and drives great. Now that the temps are cooling down, it has a cold start surging issue. It does have an HEI with vacuum advance hooked to manifold vacuum. Initial timing is set at 16 degrees. I have the advance limited to an all...

Spark plug heat range
Curious on heat range recommendations from y’all. They seem to be all over the place from what I’m reading. First combo would be a 383 with a Weiand 177 that makes about 8 psi by redline. 8.5:1 compression, hydraulic roller cam 238/240 and mid .500 lift on a 110 LSA. Running pump gas with meth injec...

Re: Rich after 144 Weiand install.
Understood. I currently do have a vacuum gauge hooked up at the manifold vacuum port on the carb, and a separate boost/vacuum gauge directly on the manifold. Under WOT, with the correct AFR (at least according to the AFR gauge) at 4-5 psi of body pressure there is about 3 in of manifold vacuum at th...

Re: Rich after 144 Weiand install.
A 2" drop air cleaner base combined with just a 2" air filter element will cause the air cleaner lid to be too close to the carb top. The blower needs unrestricted big airflow in and thru the carb to make boost and for the carb to meter properly. The higher the blower drive rate the more ...

Re: Rich after 144 Weiand install.
Thanks everyone for the continued help. I finally got a chance to drive it after removing the noise damper and it drover great. AFR's were good, no more misfiring. Built about 3-4 psi. I ordered a 2" drop air cleaner base and we will see if I can get at least a 2" air cleaner with that! If...

Re: Rich after 144 Weiand install.
Well…..that was it. At least when just checking it at idle. It went from a 12-13 AFR with the hood closed (engine still not warmed up) to a 16-17 with just popping the hood open. So I bet when the carb blades open and it starts sucking air, or trying to, it’s just getting a mouth full of hood sound ...

Re: Rich after 144 Weiand install.
What kind of air filter is on this? Is it the same one which was used when the carb ran good? I’m actually still figuring out hood clearance. It had a 14x3 but just for the test drive it did not have one at all. The hood still has the noise damper on it. I wonder if the carb has such little clearan...

Re: Rich after 144 Weiand install.
Little blower increased the carb signal. I have installed a vac gauge above the blower and then another vac / boost gauge beneath the blower. (to see if the carb needed boost referenced p/v's) My experience w/ those little blowers they respond well to higher cfm carburetors. Once I did a little tes...

Re: Rich after 144 Weiand install.
You know I didn’t think about the vacuum created under the carb by the supercharger possibly pulling the metering rods back down. That’s definitely a possibility as it just has the factory metering rod spring. Easy change to try. I guess that would actually creat a lean condition though. The carb ha...

Rich after 144 Weiand install.
I went ahead and installed a Weiand 144 I picked up for dirt cheap on a relatively mild 350 in a 91 s10. Engine is stock bottom end TBI motor with some Flotek 200cc heads and a GM performance flat tappet cam. Cam specs are below 220 duration intake/exhaust and mid 400 lift. I can get better specs if...

Re: 350 SBC Weiand 144 combo
The cam will be a Summit Racing “hot cam”hydraulic roller. 218/227 Dur., 112 LSA + 1, .525/.520 1.5 Ratio. Along with Summits LS7 hydraulic roller lifters. Actually just made a vid bout some cheaper LS lifters that look like Delphi replacements https://youtu.be/xTuqFSMwpiM I will absolutely check t...

Re: 350 SBC Weiand 144 combo
Intake port fit with taller than stock flow tek heads. The thicker the intake manifold gasket is the more the intake manifold raises up relative to the top of the intake port of the head. Its the top of the port thst has to match. If you port those heads do not make the intake port entrance bigger ...
