Re: Scat crank balance issue.

These days, with a SBC, we tell the customer, buy the kit and save the balancing grief. Many of them come done deal. But then your 3.25" stroke is considered an unusual build today. Is it for a racing class? No it is simply nostalgia. I am building a 60 vette semi resto-mod and have a lot of good m...

Re: 5/64 rings

For a 5500rpm limit with 5/64” rings just go with a gapless for the second groove. Care to explain why? Not really....just don't do it. You always want more gad in the second ring then you have at the top....why would you eliminate the gap altogether. They're great in Top Fuel and Top alky, I hate ...

Re: Shot peening piston crown?

The subaru EJ engine piston is an interesting example. gentle dish with a mound in the middle. For the first few years I did not know why it had bump in the middle then somebody told me it's to clear the rod #-o And it's true. Please keep that quiet. I have a fair number of guys that think it's a p...

Re: Best budget piston for 377 build 400block/350 crank

Be careful posting prices, they just announced another price increase. To the OP....Sure, there are a bunch on them. Mahle pistons/rings as well. For my personal use, I don't choose anything by UEM including Icon, KB, Silvolite. Nor would I assemble a 377 w/ 5.7" rods. I have a 377 w/ GM forged cra...

My supplier got 250 uppers and no lowers.

That was kinda useless......being as we aren't building Top Fuel Cars.

Re: Piston and Ring Issue

I can see several things I'd change in the piston design. Might I ask who made that set. The land stack should be .030 (or so) smaller than the skirt, but from about .150 above the top ring it should step in another .040. The rings shouldn't be butting at .028 in the top, so you need to figure out w...

Re: in line coating on piston skirts

If you are referring to Line2Line coatings. Yes it works and works well. And if someone has a motor running .0008 piston to wall, I'd like to see the skirts after the first 30 seconds of running. Poster said he added .008, how big was his piston to bore before. Rings would be busy sliding around in...
