Re: Building an 11 second 70's nostalgic SBC

As an update: the car has been in body shop for the past 3 weeks getting it as perfect as we can get it. I still dont have any heads yet but i'm patient and looking around. The chassis is done so that good. PTFB Gen 2 subframe connectors, G braces and good alignment were done after the car had the f...

How does that *NOT* fit? It was a factory intake for a flat non cowl induction hood on a SBC. I have a hard time believing it wont fit. It has fit. From the factory. Its a stock Z28 intake.

Re: Building an 11 second 70's nostalgic SBC

I love the build you have planned, looks like you found a great set of heads for it. I would love to see you stick with the solid flat tappet. I'm a big fan of the 300 36 intake also. One thought on that choice though, will it fit u der the stock hood? Tunnel rams were also very popular in that era...

Re: Cooling fan shootout - Engine Masters
Rob is still looking for his fan solution to have an edge on his LS street competition and we haven't been able to convince him that a thermostatic clutch fan is the smart way to go. At the very least the discussion is entertaining.
Whoa! LS? I don’t think so! If I was an LS guy, I...

Re: Flat tappet cams and zinc

The zinc is a softer metal that bonds to the surface which protects the part that needs protection. The forces that push the surfaces together can push the oil away which is why a heavier protection barrier (zinc) is needed.

At least that’s how I understand it.

This post however, was supposed to be about the fuel.

I think it states E15 is the ingredient they are going to use. If it keeps me from having to buy electric. So be it.

Re: 95 RON standardized as new high octane?

Their reasoning is flawed, it assumes that the greenies based their findings/efforts on facts/logic/science. 1) Their is A LOT of MONEY to be made in the great green change over, mostly off the government as it's been proven most green efforts are hardly GREEN. Many change-overs of all types have b...

Re: Building an 11 second 70's nostalgic SBC

As soon as we get shipping sorted a set of ported 292 heads are heading to texas. I called Fastenal yesterday and got a quote. The shipping price isnt bad. Its how they want you to ship them. They basically said since the heads are 100lbs total, they would have to be on a crate and banded. What a p...

95 RON standardized as new high octane?

A car buddy and I were talking last night about the future of gasoline and that prompted me to visit the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers website and I saw something I’ve never seen before, a pitch to effectively raise the octane rating on our fuel so vehicles could raise compression an...

Re: Question for those who build and sell engines

This is EXACTLY why I won’t go in business for myself. There is no shortage of idiots who can’t be humble. I’m 40, raised by boomers and learned from that generation. I can’t even begin to tell you how I can’t hang out with anyone younger than me, much less anyone even my age most of the time. It’s ...

Re: Cooling fan shootout - Engine Masters

Why? Resistance. Wind resistance which takes power to turn. Not to mention the weight which Im sure has something to do with it, but not enough to worry about as the plastic fan robbed a ton of power and im sure it weighed next to nothing as far as fans go. So we can put weight at the bottom of the ...

Re: Cooling fan shootout - Engine Masters

You really think 30 HP + the water pump through a 3/8" V belt? #-o Yes. I think so. Sticking your hand out the window at 60mph is quite a force. Now multiply that x 5, 6 or 7 to account for the total area of the fan blades whipping around at 6,000+rpm. It’s dyno proven several times over that mecha...
