Re: best timing setup BBC
If you go to YouTube and look up "Ben Alameda Racing", Ben put out a really great video on timing chain vs gear drive vs belt drive about a year ago. Title is: "Timing chain vs. Gear drive vs. Belt drive. Which is best? Answer at end of video." I think it's a great video with go...

Re: Howards Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters - What In The World?
Just curious. Did you buy these directly from Howards ? Any chance they are an offshore counterfeit ? Unless you purchased them directly from Howards I think I would reach out to them first and make sure that the lifters get back to them directly. I would certainly call them before sending them bac...

Re: Howards Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters - What In The World?
You won't see that issue with our Hydraulic flat tappet lifters, and that's the reason why they're $170 a set. OK Mike, I will take you up on that!! I'll order a set of your lifters, I've gone through 3 sets now, and every one of them have been absolute junk! Isky was by far the best, but even they...

Howards Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters - What In The World?
Received these in the mail today. Sending them back out tomorrow, absolutely unacceptable! You'd think Howards would take a bit more pride in their quality control! These are their #91112 lifters. Also, checking them on my Fowler gauge stand shows they are totally unsymmetrical around the circumfer...

King Con Rod Bearings, which is top, which is bottom?
Hi folks, I've looked all over the place, and I cannot find the answer to this. I went to the King website tonight, and looked through their catalogs, and I've either overlooked the info or it's not published in their catalogs. The only thing this set of bearings has is an orange dot on one of the p...

Re: Amateur BBC 781 Intake Valve Shootout
Awesome info, thanks for sharing! Carlquist is only about 10 hrs from me, maybe I can take my 781's to him, and get them CNC'd this summer sometime. Looks like killer results! It's always been my understanding, that back cutting your intake valves will generally help low lift flow, but I am no exper...

Re: Mission Impossible 318ci 318HP
I just don't get it! Going through all of this work, but won't opt for at least a factory 4 barrel manifold and carb? SMH. It's just painful! What challenge is there in trying to made 1 HP per ci with a 4 barrel carb? The OEM auto manufactures did that over 60 years ago. Stan I guess there is...

Re: Mission Impossible 318ci 318HP
Why ask why? Just because they can. Keep your Debbie Downer schlepping in your own lane. Most would cheer for a stock class racer who has to use that intake and carb and gets national record setting power from it. Wow! Take some downers and relax pal, I'll ask why all I f'ing feel like!! Welcome to...

Re: Mill Edge of Piston Dome or Open Combustion Chamber?
Work both the piston and head. Get the clearance to where you can put the pistons in the block, set the head on the engine and rotate the engine over without anything hitting with NO head gasket. When you put the head gasket on you will be fine. I would assign each piston a number so you can keep t...

Re: Mill Edge of Piston Dome or Open Combustion Chamber?
I had the same problem with my TRW 2307 pistons and 781 OC heads. I opened up the chamber on the exhaust side, worked out great. These are number 48033 .030 Manley pistons, made by TRW for Manley. They're probably nearly the same thing, although the domes on these appear to me nearly "finished...
