Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

To get a better understanding of this situation with stick shift and maybe help the OP. Engine is not yet assembled. What is the better choice in this situation: Leave compression as is and choose camshaft IVC that will help prevent combustion issues but likely shift torque curve up in rpm but make ...

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

If all it took was a later closing intake valve a Pro Stock racing engine would run on 87 octane gas. It doesn't. Your engine is going to want 100 R+M/2 octane gas. For street use on a pump gas retard the timing as required to avoid detonation. 4-6-8 deg as needed. Water/methanol injection does won...

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

Is the bottom end together yet? Grinding on the heads is hard to put material back if you want that 52cc’s in the future without having to surface the head. Haven’t mentioned what engine but can the pistons have 3cc’s taken out somewhere? Of course if it’s a crap chamber then reshaping may be the be...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

In my reply to Tom above, I thought the test had lost some of it's merit with HEI to traditional small cap. That said, if both were locked at 34°, then what? That would have revealed the differences in hardware and electronics as opposed to differences in timing at various RPM. My thoughts are any ...

Weighs 3350lb on the scales on the ring rd BP.
If you go to Calder you'll have to drop in and put it on the individual wheel scales.

Scaled this beast recently.

Re: Intake Manifold Porting Show ‘n Tell

This Holley Street Dominator was my intake on the late 70's early 80's 400 SBC street terror I built while in college. Does anyone have an opinion on how that old tech stacks up today? After 50 pages, it may have been covered here but I missed it. 50! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_KBV8JBnLY&...

Progression Ignition... Did you manage any A to B testing with the Progressive compared your best results ignition-wise? This came back to me while watching this 406 dyno test on the Unity MotorSports Garage channel. If you do/have seen it, what are your thoughts on the results? https://www.youtube...

Re: Extending intake dividers

it didn't need any Jet staggering , mostly because 2 Spacer's added Plenum height causing largest amount of the Mixture to go downward into the top portion of the Runners . The Manifold picked up TQ and HP everywhere . from previous experiences , i was not too afraid to Weldup and extend the Runner...

I assume that is when more of the fuel is being drawn from deeper in the plenum at partial throttle?

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build

Thanks. Is that measurement at( under ) the step? I take the step to .490. What is the smallest inside diameter of the booster? Usually the Holley booster measures .380 smallest portion. Had to correct that. Braswell steps out to .525” The one in the photo I said was std is actually a Demon booster...

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build

HQM383 is the Braswell down leg booster a larger diameter , particularly inside entrance? Inside is under .010” larger diameter- .431” v .440”. However the outside diameter is larger by around .057” and taller by around .060”. The extra height puts the booster air exit lower in the venturi by the h...
